Do I think that Miles has been an elite coach up to this point...no. But he won a NC and has tried to make what he thinks is positive changes in the offseason. Whether they make a difference or not remains to be seen. I'm hoping that they do and LSU has a surprisingly good year. It's a very important year for Miles to prove that the last 2 years were a fluke and not a trend.
Agree with with ya here, with my edits in bold....

accept being mediocre with the best talent in the history of the program for fear of only being able to hire someone that isn't on the same level of mediocrity as Les?

lsu is picked to finish 4th-in the west. state has a better coach. how far do you let the program slide?

les has two commas in his paycheck. for that type of compensation, as a customer of LSU athletics I have a right to expect a little more.
well said..

You can think I'm a Miles apologist all you want, but I've REPEATEDLY said that this is the year that Miles shows what he's worth
so if he goes 8-4 this year, what will you think he is worth???

Nobody here thinks 8 - 4 is ok. Everyone wants better. We had three great years with Miles. The last two have been disappointing, EVERYONE AGREES. Now stop acting like people here are satisfied with 8 - 4.

Read the original post. The last two years are "not all that bad". That's the mentality of mediocrity that I thought we got rid of with Charles McClendon. Or at least hoped we did.

And I love the "4 million" comments. So y'all would be satisfied with the last 2 years if Miles was only making 1 mil a year? Man that's just crazy. It is a very bad argument and I laugh whenever someone brings it up.

The $4 million is relevant because it represents a financial commitment by the school to have a top-tier elite program. If we wanted 8-4 on a regular basis, we could get it a lot cheaper than that, but the fact that we pay it means we want, and expect, better. So no, if we were paying him $1 million and losing like we are now, I would not be OK with it. I'd be saying we need to go out and hire a $4 million coach and be an elite powerhouse. Instead, we're getting the worst of both worlds. We're paying the $4 million, but getting a $1 million coach.

Hell no. He has experience on the line. At QB. Defensive Coordinators second year. It's time to right the ship.

So Les is governor now?

No, he's not the governor, but the word "regime" applies to his management of the football program. He's not a teacher either, but the word "tenure", most often used in the context of teachers, still applies to the period he's been coaching. He's not a historical figure either, but the word "era", most often used to describe historical periods, also applies to his time as LSU head coach. He's not retired yet, either, but the word "career", most often used to refer to the entire period of a life's work, also applies to his time as LSU head coach.

So, the Miles regime, Miles' tenure as head coach, the Miles era and Miles' career at LSU all refer to the same thing, and all are appropriate references. But of course leave it to you to throw in some ersatz intellectual bullshite to avoid having to make an actual point.

Ok I can live with that.

I'm sick of all the Miles bashing and the meaningless banter from a lot of folks on this board.

I hope LSU and Miles run the frikkin table this year. I really do.

I wonder how the mood would change around here if we got to Florida undefeated and come out of there with a win.

I wonder what folks on here would say and where the credit would go.

Come on guys.... Football season is 38 days away!!!

Let's get together and support our team and all of it's coaches.

The main thing Negatygers like to throw up is "TOP 5 TALENT" The NFL hasn't agreed with yall in the last two years.I think they are the ultimate judge on how many good players you have.I'm not a Miles lover but LSU was not loaded with talent the last few years and may not be loaded now.............

Agreed!!!! There is some intangible that just doesn't seem to be right. I think it goes back to Perrilloux and the loss of some important assistants. But being old and feeble at 62 and with one foot nearer each day to the grave, I COULD be wrong.

bullshite. You, Choctaw, Uncommon Cents et al will have a fresh new supply of excuses by mid-November.

Excuses are easier than accomplishments. That's why any time excuses become acceptable substitutes for accomplishments, they are pretty soon the only thing you have.

We are also quick to forget about getting Perrilloux out. I think that devastated the team's performance.

Not having an experienced backup hurt the teams performance, not RP leaving. Any coach with a hint of foresight should have known RP was on the roster day to day. I think most of the fans knew. RP leaving was only "devastating" because of the lack of capable backups, which is squarely on the staff. LSU is a couple of injuries from being in a worse position now.

Overall, I agree though. Miles will be judged more on this year than the last two. even a mediocre season will probably buy him another year or two if some coaches are sacrificed.

Boy, I really struck a nerve when i started this thread, but I am glad I did.

Here's what I notice about threads everywhere, and it goes like this. I say that my opinion is A. Somebody writes back that is great. Somebody else writes in that, not really true opinion B is the better way to go. After about three or four responses, someone wirtes in that you are an idiot. Anybody can see that it is (whatever), but your stupidity boggles the mind. I love this board, but i sometimes lament the loss of civil discourse in this country.

I think Miles has what it takes. I think he is a gentleman and a great recruiter. I don't see him as the second coming of Christ. If we implode this year and a change needs to be made in any of the ranks, I can live with that. I am seriously hoping for the best and a correction of a few big problems and a myriad of minor ones.
