ended one of the LSU games in the 80's. The Tulane gentlemen were very sporting, they took off their helmets before they went on the field to fight while the LSU players kept their's on.

One would think the Tulane boys were smarter than that...

I'd keep mine on but having someone grab you by the face mask can give them a lot of leverage too.

Their DB's were known as the "Pointer Brothers" because they would all point at the tackled reciever . They were a bunch of bush leaguers and it was an epic brawl in the South end zone. The LSU players kicked the crap out of them. I believe Wally English was their coach-1984-Arnsparger's first year at LSU.

I was at that game. Was fun to see Tulane get their arse kicked during the game and afterward.

Shawn Burks took care of anyone who was within 10 feet of him. It was like the WWF had come to town.

With the helmet off, you can use one hand to grab their face mask and make it very difficult for them to coordinate their swings, with the other hand you can pummel them into oblivion with said helmet (ref: FIU-Miami, Tutorial in football fighting.)

While you beat me on my helmet with your one hand, I use my two hands to rip your helmet from your one hand and wear your arse out with it. . .

Taking off a helmet to fight on a football field is definitely a very stupid move.

I was at that game too, and Shawn Burks was definitely the gladiator that day.

I thought it was more towards the north end zone, near lsu sideline, though I could be completely misremembering it. I was just a little kid in the stands.

ETA: I could be confusing this with the Fla St fight.
