Rumors are bouncing all around the IMDBpro message boards that Gene Hackman will return to the big screen to portray a character in long time friend John Grisham's The Associate (2012) which will star Shia LaBeouf in what is considered Grisham's best legal thriller since The Firm. I would love to see Hackman return. How about you? What are a few of your favorite Hackman performances?

1.The Client (1996) -most powerful and underrated performance IMO-
2.Mississippi Burning (1988) -nominated for Best Actor Oscar-
3.Runaway Jury (2003) -stole every scene he was in, the confrontation between Hoffman and Hackman in the New Orleans courthouse bathroom was epic-

All I can say is "enough already". All I see in a Gene Hackman performance these days is Gene Hackman.

eta: and he seems to play the same guy in every picture.

Good thread topic, Dan. I like Hackman in pretty much anything he's in. I loved him as Royal Tenanbaum, and he was great as Little Bill in Unforgiven.

My favorite Hackman movie is Hoosiers.

He will always be remembered as Coach Norman Dale to me.

He also seems to play a southerner involved in race relations and crime movies set in Mississippi and the south. Mississippi Burning, the Chamber, The Firm, and Runaway Jury.

Welcome to Mooseport - what a fricking terrible movie to end his career.

Crimson Tide
Unforgiven
Hoosiers
The Conversation
Mississippi Burning

I also really liked his smaller roles in The Firm and Bonnie and Clyde

side note
I must be the only person I know that didn't care for The French Connection

don't forget about the quick and the dead. a pretty star studded cast in that one and a good take on modern westerns.
