Anyone know more places where you can get Heiner Brau on tap in BR? I personally like it much better than that other Covington beer. I've heard rumors that Abita pays bars and stores to not carry Heiner Brau. Any truth to this?

Add to:

Chimes
Bulldog
Happy's
Red Zeppelin
Rotolos (Prairieville) anyone know about the Rotolo's on Nicholson?

No Abita tries to do that to all craft brews and used to get away with it more than they do. I believe Red Zepplin had a Heiner Brau tap the other day.

I doubt Abita can flat out pay for that kind of stuff, but they probably make some very good pricing agreements, etc for a bar to not carry Heiner Brau.
I know that down here the folks at NOLA have taken some of the tap market from Abita and are probably making life hell for Neiner Brau.

I thought the Covington beer was kind of the same stuff.

Well I talked to a lot of people that are in the bar business, liquor store business, and brewery business, and they said those were Abita's old practices. Better pricing for exclusivity, however customers clamoring for other product won out. Nola has done a good job thus far in getting out and getting noticed. I also think their product is better than any other LA brewery.

I still have to lean toward Abita with their darker/hoppier stuff, especially when a good select is on tap.
NOLA did great with the box of beer they are selling. Rouses actually has it in 3 or 4 of the different kinds at times.

Hoppier? I have found no Abita beer to be hoppier than the NOLA Hopitoulas, and I'm a big time hop fiend.

I guess hoppier was the wrong word. I like the wide selection of the Abita darker stuff.
Between Abita turbodog, IPA, Bock, Resteration Ale, and certain selects, I am happy.

I probably need to try that Hopitoulas again.

I've been impressed with NOLA....I hope they start bottling soon.

Very soon I think. I saw bottle proto types back in March or April. I think also there is some issue with a certain distro company about bottling and how it will all take place.

Covington Brewhouse and Heiner Brau are the same company.... I'm not positive, but I think they are fazing out the Heiner Brau name and replacing it with Covington....

Albertson's on Bluebonnet at Burbank carries two Heiner's (the Klosch and the Maersk) - not sure of spelling but both are good. I have not seen the Covington Brewhouse anywhere yet (Bayou Bock and Ponchartrain Pilsner).

It's now officially Covington Brew, there is no more Heiner Brau, and you can add Niche Bar and Grill, carries the strawberry on tap.

I'm not really sure what retailer carries them, maybe Whole Foods, or the place on Liquor store on Perkins, can't remember the name right at this moment.

And yes, the Bayou Bock is where it's at.

the wife picked me up some Bayou Bock for our Anniversary at Whole Foods. She bought a couple singles with a bunch of other stuff. I would imagine they have it in 6packs though.
