Unfortunately, I (we) have become accustom to waiting throughout this ordeal.

So has the oil stopped leaking?

No, they ran the stack on drill pipe so that's why it may look that way.

No, if you look at Skandi, ROV2, you'll see the oil coming from the holes in the pipe on top. They haven't closed the rams yet.

Perhaps Obama will call them and tell them to close the rams.

It would be nice if we could have updates without political commentary. And maybe the Sun will rise in the west one day too.

I don't know. I just saw something happen that did not look good. Hope this is not a setback or that what I saw was somehow normal but it didn't look that way.

Looks like they removed the perforated pipe.

Did y'all see the snazzy new digital readout on the stack? LINK
Posted on 7/12/10 at 9:33 pm to MountainTiger
the perforated pipe was in the string in order to function as a diverter -- allowing the oil to go up through the capping stack, then exit above it. this keeps the oil from going up the drill pipe to the rig. this particular rig (the discoverer inspiration) is not set up w/ production equipment to handle oil at surface.

I can see BP starting a new company on how to deal with these spills and make millions off of it. No way in hell should BP have to give all the secrets to this hard lesson.

first, it's not just BP people working on this. there are individuals from pretty much every oil company that operates in the deepwater providing assistance at BP's shop. while BP has the vast majority of the people, outside expertise has been sought and is contributing as well.
second, pretty much all of this information will be revealed to the public via formal incident reports.
third, we've heard discussions that a gulf-wide, cross-industry initiative will be mandated to have all of this kit available and at a state of readiness.

Do you think that all of this information being put out there to help other companies in the industry and such might sway the Obama administration to lift the ban any sooner?

Peeople don't seem to beieve me when I try to expalin that companies in the same field often work together because it's in their own self interest.

there's already a slew of joint industry task forces that are working to address various aspects that have come to light during this incident.
it's in the industry's best interest to freely share info here, so that we can all respond better in the future, and address whatever concerns various govt's around the world have.
