I love watching the world cup every 4 years (got hooked in '94), and I follow the MNT closely during qualifying. However I watch almost no EPL, Bundesliga, Etc.

How would an above average, but not great World Cup side, like say the U.S., S. Korea, Slovakia do if they played against the top teams in the EPL? How would they do in a full 38 game season?

I realize in some cases there would be roster overlap but just humor me.

Get their shite handed to them. A side like United or Chelsea would run over Slovenis, S. Korea, or the US. Maybe a little different if it were Spain or Brazil you were talking about. But I still think the club team would prevail.

Lose. The top teams in EPL, and most quality Champions League teams are basically all-star collections of talent.

It all depends on team chemistry. I think the USMNT has much more team chemistry than most other countries. If the other team isn't playing on the same page, then a lesser team could beat them.

i think they could hang with some of the lower la liga teams, but they could still get beat by them on any given day. the top? forget about it.

not good, club teams have the luxury of paying for top talent regardless of nationality.

José Mourinho was even quoted as saying something to the likes of his inter team can compete with the best national teams.

i don't think he was too far off

I think it would be a fairly decent game, but then again every year for the MLS allstar game a big time team is brought over here to play and I'm pretty sure that the MLS allstars usually win. Granted the allstars are comprised of people from all over the world, but they still play in the MLS so they're obviously not even close to the caliber of these other teams that they play against.

DC United beat AC Milan the other day. I think the USMNT could avoid relegation in the EPL.

Oh definitely could avoid relegation. But beat someone in the top 3? No way. They'd have to play the game of their lives.

And they're typically not even playing the other club's starters.

Do these teams like AC Milan ever play more than a couple of their normal starters in these type games though?

as the season draws closer, the teams that they put out are pretty god damned good.

mls teams are competitive with them because it's hot, meaningless, and they're in pre-season form with pre-season fitness.

I think Ohio State beat the Crew a few years ago. These games are always meaningless and prove nothing.

club teams are together 10 months out of the year...

national teams get together for a game or two every two months outside of tournaments
