It's really close to me. I'd say they rank 5th and 6th all-time. I believe they have the same amount of Finals MVPS, while Kobe has more titles. Bird has more regular season MVPs, Kobe has more all-NBA selections and all-NBA 1st team defense selections. It's really a toss up, but I think Kobe will inevitably pass him in most people's minds.

For an entire career it's Kobe, but in their prime it's pretty close. I think people have forgotton just how good Bird was. He was a better passer, shooter, and rebounder than Kobe. Kobe has been a better overall scorer and defender. I think I'd go with Kobe but it's closer than the fan boys think.

Considering I wasn't alive for pretty much all of Larry Bird's career, I'll reserve judgment.

Right now, Bird! Bird leads in most stats and Kobe should average down in coming years. Kobe Needs Labron or someone to challenge him in the finals before he can get to that epic level of Bird or Magic IMO. Kobe really needed alot of help in game 7. Wasn't his best game on that stage.

It just seems like a better comparison statistically and when you take into account where most non-fanboys rank them historically. Though they were different types of players obviously.

Yeah it's a fair comparison. Bird was more efficient and had no weakness in his prime. It's a shame that he started breaking down so early.

Durability plays into ranking players for me. Kobe has pretty much played great basketball for 12 years, while I think Bird only played 12 years total. Kobe's career achievements will be ridiculous by the time he hangs em up, so it probably won't be much of a debate then.

I think Kobe can impact a game on the offensive and defensive end at a greater extent than Bird, but Bird was a more efficient player all around.

I think some people will take it as a knock on Kobe to compare him to Bird. A lot of people think of Bird as some unathletic white dude who camped around the 3 point line and drained 3's. He was such a good passer, rebounder, and his handles were solid. His defense was underrated. Like you said he was one of the top 6 players ever. Kobe will be up there when he retires.

Why do YOU even compare. YOU have a HUGE mancrush on Kobe so ........GEEZ! I would take Bird over Kobe EVERYDAY. A BETTER TEAM PLAYER overall.
