What effect does boycotting BP gas stations have on BP, the refinery? Do BP gas stations pay a "franchise fee" or does BP collect revenue from the mom and pop gas stations?

since all GOM production goes through the same pipelines and into the same refineries then that has nothing to do w/ BP

idk the specifics on running a BP Station tho

Bankrupting BP would not be a good thing.

From what I understand, BP gas stations buy a franchise from BP proper. They then buy gasoline from BP distributors. They are under contract to do so.

However... they are locally owned businesses, with local employees, that pay local tax dollars. They are about as far removed from BP Drilling and Exploration as you can get.
Considering all of the things that petroleum go into, it seems rather silly to try and boycott a locally owned BP gas station, when you're probably buying tons of other things that oil produced and sold by BP go into.

Very little. The station may be mom and pop owned and they may or may not be selling BP product.
It is all just silly games people that love to forward emails and post stuff on facebook like to play.

Btw, if you put boycott into that little search function up there and search this board, there are probably 5 or so threads about this. Pretty good information in some of those threads.

I completely understand about the sourcing of the gasoline, but I would still like the local BP station to change affiliation. I'm not fond of keeping former girlfriends pictures around after she's been cheating on me - to use a metaphor.

Unfortunately, I am sure they are under contract for a specific term. Moving to a new supplier would require complete rebranding of the store at the very least, if they could get out of the contract at all.

I agree, lets drive BP out of business in the USA. We don't need those jobs. That refinery they have in doesn't bring in that much money. Let them move that crap over seas. Yeah lets stick Saudi Arabia with getting another refinery. Yeah we'll show them. BP is the red x for those that don't know and we are the angry mob trying to knock them off their pedestal.

Your logic is flawed. If BP closed up US operations then someone else will take them over; hopefully someone who can operate in a more cautious and responsible manner. The oil that comes out of the GOM will be processed by someone in the US.

Don't hurt the "small" people.

Sell your BP shares. Hurt the "big" people, whose compensation is largely tied to its stock price.

BP is not going to go bankrupt. They are a multinational corporation and many of their customers around the globe don't give a rat's arse about us. I do care about us! I was born in New Orleans, my family fished, set crab traps and trawled in the waters that BP's carelessness and greed has damaged. I don't care if I ever see another green and yellow stylized flower again!

SoFla Station Owners Feeling BP Boycott Blues

quote:

On Facebook, the BP boycott has over 640,000 people on board, though BP Oil doesn't own stations in America, it only supplies them with gasoline.

Close to zero. However, the store owner that lives in your community will feel it. But frick that guy, he was in on it right?
