im not sure if any of you have seen this... thought it was worth mentioning.

"The SEC has staunchly adhered to equal revenue sharing -- Vanderbilt and Florida both get the same slice of the pie. League officials didn't think Texas was overly interested in that arrangement. (It's worth noting that Texas officials have said the SEC was not the academic fit the school aspired to.)"

Yes cause Big 12 schools like Oklahoma St., K. State and Iowa St. are such bastions of intellectualism.

The SEC is now a higher ranked academic conference than the Big 12-less NEB and CU. So that argument is crap.

IMO, they wouldnt be king in this conference, or anything even close to a conference bully in the SEC.

they clearly were preserving the easiest path to the BCS.

hell, half the time the dominant Big 12 team couldnt even survive their own conference title game!

no wonder that obstacle is gone.

Texas fans should be embarassed. Longhorns are supposed to have massive balls... not massive vaginas.

i couldnt be more proud of the SEC these days.

You have to look beyond the words to see the real UT intent. It's dollars and ego.

I never understood that argument. If Texas is a good academic institution then wouldn't they bring up the SEC's academic average by virtue of their joining?

Even if they think schools like LSU & Bama are bunch of dummies how does that effect them? Are bad academics contagious?(Not saying LSU & Bama are bad) Are their fans gonna come to games in the SEC then get back to Austin and stop studying because they had such a blast at a football game?

Texas uses the "SEC was not the academic fit the school aspired to" card to stay away from the increased competition that the SEC requires.

As a LSU graduate and 2 years of grad school plus 2 more at another SEC (USC) university, I resent the Texas pomposity.

Probably the best write up on the whole fiasco that I have read so far...and it was by a UT grad.

They are freaking pussies. Vandy is a better school than Texas, Florida is pretty much dead even academically, and Georgia is just right behind them.

I think Forde himself hit on the real issue. Texas didn't want to move to a conference where they'd be an equal partner in everything. They want to have special rights. That's what they have in the Big XII, and what they were going to try to do to the Pac 10.

The Big XII-II currently has 10 teams, the SEC has 12.

The Big XII has 3 teams (out of 10) without at tier I academic ranking, the SEC has 2 (out of 12).
- 30% of the Big XII schools are not Tier I institutions, compared to 16.67% of the SEC schools.

The top 5 USN&WR rankings for the Big XII are 47 (Texas), 61 (Texas A&M), 80 (Baylor), 88 (Iowa State), 96 (Kansas).
The top 5 USN&WR rankings for the SEC are 17 (Vanderbilt), 47 (Florida), 58 (Georgia), 88 (Auburn), 96 (Alabama).
To parse that another way:
- The top Big XII school is ranked 47th (tied with the second ranked SEC school). The top SEC school is ranked 17th.

- The second ranked Big XII school is ranked 61st (three spots behind the third ranked SEC school). The second ranked SEC school is 47th (tied with the top ranked Big XII school).

- The fourth and fifth ranked schools for both the Big XII and SEC are tied at 88th and 96th, respectively.

The Big XII does currently have 5 AAU members, while the SEC only has 3.

ETA: The SEC is better than the Big XII-II academically at the top, and it's better at the bottom.

Texas would have stood out more in the Pac Ten..
but still maybe play second fiddle to USC.

In the Big 12-2, they are still king

they could never be king in the SEC..as a newbie..

they realize it..and it's best they stay put.

Texas is a freeloader. They have zippo leadership qualities. They could negotiate higher standards with the SEC if that is really important. If the SEC had the highest academic standards in all of college athletics do you think they would want to join? Hell no, they have made it quite clear they want the easiest path to the BCS they can get.

remember that time Texas almost made it to the final four in 2006 but were put out by an SEC team? Remember the time in 2009 they almost won the NC in baseball but were beaten by an SEC team? Remember that time in 2010 Texas almost won the NC in football but were throttled by an SEC team? Those times were funny.
