I haven't been keeping up like most around here. Is Texas likely to back out of the PAC-10 offer and, if so, what is prompting them to do so?

as it should be. Great power play by A&M...well done. And I seriously mean that.

Makes sense.

Although I still think it would do A&M good to get out from Texas' shadow and become its "own man" so to speak.

That said, if Texas backs out of the Pac10 deal, I think everyone wins because aside from a few minor shifts (Nebraska being the biggest), everything remains relatively the same as it was, which I believe is what most college football fans want really. And it appears we would have A&M to thank for that. As was said earlier, great power play move by A&M...good for them!

I don't think it will be the end of the super-conference push, though.

Wait, you were joking, right?

Just because it is in Texas, doesn't mean peopel follwo them. Nebraska has one of teh largest followings in CFB. And the Denver market is HUGE/

The Big12's $$$ may end up to be higher than it was before all this madness, but IMO the Big12 has taken a huge PR hit from all this, and even if it doesn't fail now, it will no longer be looked at as one of the premier conferences in college football anymore.

It depends on how the offer was structured. If the Pac-10 offer was structured as a five-school package deal (UT, A&M, Tech, OU, and OSU), and A&M (and maybe even OU) back out, the deal may no longer be valid.

Having both UT and A&M in the deal would have given the Pac-10 a near monopoly on the Texas media markets (especially top 10 markets DFW and Houston). The Pac-10 would still do well if UT joined by itself (1/2 block of cheese and 1/2 bottle of wine > no cheese and wine) but they may have structured future TV network negotiations on bringing all the cheese and wine to the party.

Bad move... The Big-12 will still be financially weak and unable to compete with the bigger schools. If it doesn't come apart now, it will in the short term future. ...And watch, once everyone agrees that the Big-12 will stay together, Mizzou will get that Big-12 invite and someone else will be invited into the PAC-10 (maybe a nervous Kansas).

Not happening... and it would be stupid for A&M to stay if it did. Big New Ten would be WEAK.

No body follows Nebraska anymore...they ain't done shite in a long time...people in other states don't like them like they used to......the amount of people who follow cu in Denver is probably less than the amount that follow tcu....Utah is actually a big colloge football state....he'll byu has the same amount of tradition as Nebraska

It sure appears A&M is really holding all the cards now. What a difference a day makes.

A&M could really screw Texas if they wanted to in all this. Try to keep the Big12 together yet at the same time, cut a secret deal with the SEC, only to save the SEC/A&M announcement for a much later date after the Pac10 and Big10 have made all their moves. Leave Texas and the Big9 to crumble without anywhere to go.

Well then, we will agree to disagree. Nebraska is big time monies.

I can't disagree more. The best thing for A&M and college football is to retain the Big 12. They have a new TV deal coming and Texas was trying to take advantage of this entire situation and get a sweatheart deal with the Pac 10. By A&M taking the stance they did, which I think was a real threat to join the SEC, it has made the whole rethink the decision. A&M may have saved the likes of Baylor, KU, and K-State without ever realizing it. Texas was about to bully all of college football and the SEC and A&M stepped up.

The Big 12 and SEC do not need to be a part of "Mega-Conferences", they are mega-conferences. Everyone esle is playing second fiddle.

the Big 12 will fail if texas stays along with aTm, Ok and Ok State. It couldnt properly function when Neb and Colorado were in it. What makes anyone think it will survive? Texas will be happy because they will rule the same conference that they've ruled with 12 members, but now with 10. the tv contracts are gonna go higher with two less teams like colorado and nebraska? yeah ok.

best news we heard all week was nebraska and colorado leaving...they were sick of texas' shite and basically told them to frick off...

are there any more gonads in that conference full of pussies?

stay tuned.

I think that is what the SEC hopes happens. It gave TAM an open ended commitment so that it can save the Big XII if possible, and if not it has the SEC as an option, the SEC isn't tampering with the ACC or anyone else, the SEC isn't pushing anything.

I think they have a great strategy in this mess.
