it's fairly obvious the SEC would want Va. Tech as the 14th team if we bring in aTm. If the rumors are true and Virginia politicians won't allow that to happen what do you think about West Virginia?

I still haven't gotten a reason why the politicians could block this. Claiming they are going to scale back higher education funding to VTech in the name of a football conference switch sounds like the worst political move a person could make and I'm not buying it.

If aTm can leave Texas with the oil and gas endowment links between the two schools I see nothing keeping VT from ditching UVA, no matter how much UVA helped VT get into the ACC.

i still don't get how/why the politicians care what athletic depts for schools do... i can understand the academic side of things but there is no place for government in college athletics.

btw-- i DO realize its a money thing, but there is still no place for politics in college athletics.

VT is afraid to turn down the SEC. Read their message board....for as long as you can stand to lol. WV to the SEC is the Hokies' worst nightmare.

What does West Virginia bring to the SEC besides shitty academics and a small market?

good football and basketball

shitty academics

the requirements to get in are low b/c they want every wv hs grad to be able to go there and for cheap. That doesn't mean the academics suck. WVU is ranked 30th in the amount of Rhodes Scholars it has.

small market?

its proven they get big ratings all over the country most wvu fans from wv don't even live there any more and half the school students and alumni are from out of state to start with(DC/Bmore,Philly,NY/NJ, and Pittsburgh)

I would not be a fan of an invite to WVU. Wouldn't make much sense to me.

anything is possible at this point, most wvu fans want to be in the sec the big 10 won't consider us b/c of the AAU and the ACC and its snobbish ways looks down on everything about WVU. I don't think schools like UVA or Duke would be to happy with 15k wvu fans coming into town.

The SEC should only invite West Virginia if all the attractive and geographically viable ACC programs (Virginia Tech, UNC, Clemson, FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech) turn them down. Then and only then should the SEC invite West Virginia into the conference.

A northern team does not belong in the SEC.

Let's not forget why it was founded. NOT southern.

Clemson, FSU, Miami and Georgia Tech doesn't necessarily bring new markets but they allow the SEC to solidify their standing in some very fertile recruiting areas. There are a lot of top South Carolina kids going to UNC and other ACC programs because they have a familiarity with the conference. That will never happen if Clemson becomes a SEC program. West Virginia is a very mediocre state to find top football recruits and they don't have the historical impact of a Tennessee or Nebraska to make up for those disadvantages. They pretty much bring nothing besides a decent football program.

While historically correct, that would be a hell of a reason not to invite WVA to the SEC.
