Slive is dumb for not going after these Big 12 South Teams

What does FSU or Clemson or any of those teams bring our conference that we don't already have? They don't expand our current television market, which is what is really important. Why do you think Colorado has always been so attractive to the Pac? The Denver market is one of the top 15 in the country. It's not like the SEC has money problems, but it seems natural to move west in regard to SEC expansion and that means Texas and aTm. Hell, I would take OSU and OU as well to just bring it to 16 and move Bama and Auburn to the East. Or just do away with east and west and do a straight rotation like the current Big 10.
And I don't really believe that Texas is concerned with academics. They have been quite content being the big dog in the Big 12 and that conference isn't anything special on the academic front.

What makes you think Slive isn't talking to the Big 12 teams? He's just not flapping his gums to the media like everyone else seems to be. According to one article I read, he's been talking to some Big 12 South Teams for a month.

I know it's not over but I've never found Slive to be the proactive commissioner that we had prior to his arrival. He is a pawn of the schools, not a figurehead that we need.

Which could very well be true. But I just don't have a ton of trust in Slive to make it happen.

Slive was one of the first to come out when the Big 10 talked expansion. He said the SEC was not gonna sit pat while the Big 10 got better. Just because we arent hearing things it doesnt mean things arent happening

Look I hope I'm wrong. Bringing these teams to the SEC makes sense both geographically and financially.

You speak bibles of truth. Wonder if there are schools that are flying under the radar that might get a look? What if instead of going west for tv sets, we went north? Grab Mizzou and get St. Louis and possibly some KC. Bring in Louisville and get Cincinnati and some more of Ohio. Maybe look at Maryland and/or UVA and get the DC and Baltimore markets. Just some thoughts

We're hearing announcements from the fringe schools. It's looking like UT, TAMU, TT, and OU are going to be a package deal. Though UT might want to go PAC-10 rather than SEC, it looks like OU and TAMU are more interested in the SEC. In the end it will come down to money. So I like our chances.

Of course he's talking to them. If it really is true that Oklahoma, A&M, and Tech are all going to follow Texas (and I don't know for sure if that is true for all of them) then they most likely won't be coming here since Texas seems set on not joining the SEC.

If you're talking football, IMO, the goal on the field is to be in a conference where you contol your own destiny. If LSU goes undefeated in 2010 they will be in the MNC. If this balance of power changes that and the SEC becomes what the PAC 10 is now, then it could be a probelm.
I see no reason why the SEC would want to add a team like Texas or OU. What the hell for? If you're LSU and have to play Bama, Texas, Oklahoma and Florida for example in the same season those teams would really canabalize themselves reducing your chance to go undefeated even more and cuttling a clear path for some crap ACC team to go to the MNC. It depends on how it works out but I hope Slive is keeping tabs on it.

Lets hope they don't come true. Some of those schools would add nothing.

Texas is a lot more concerned with academics than most of the SEC dude.
Texas A&M is a different story though.

I don't think Louisville would be a terrible call because they are competitive in all three major sports. But football is king and even with the backdrop of the SEC to help them recruit, I still think it's somewhat of a mediocre addition. But makes more sense to me than adding a team like Clemson or GT.

Slive is much different than his outward appearance suggests. He did what Kramer couldn't by cleaning up the conference without diluting the product. If he can do that, expansion should be easy. Keep in mind that Kramer ended up with Arkansas and South Carolina in the last expansion. Slive should be able to beat that without much effort.

If that were really true they wouldn't have been so content to be in the Big 12 pre-departure of Colorado and Nebraska. Texas is a great school academically but I just don't believe the academics is playing that large of a role in this when it's all said and done. They will talk about it, but I highly doubt that it's that important considering the Big 12's academic status being along the lines, maybe even worse overall than the SEC.

Because it's about money. Always has been. They bring a huge following and lot of money.

I understand that, but if UT is tied to TAMU and TT, then UT is not the only school making the decision. It's the biggest player, but if the other 2 are saying SEC the game isn't over.

TT isn't getting in the SEC. There is almost no benefit for us putting them in the SEC.

I think aTm has more pull in this than we give them credit for. It makes a lot more sense for them to say fvck it we're going to the SEC no matter what Texas decides to do than to relegate themselves to the Pac 10 which doesn't appear to help aTm in any way. Moving to the SEC would help them a lot I think because kids in Texas are very familiar with the SEC to begin with and it would be an easier draw for them.
