Last night on Larry King, T Boone Pickens said that yhe moratorium will cause alot of the rigs to simply move to foreign waters. He went on to say that although the moratorium is for 6 months, it takes the rig about 6 months to get set up in foreign waters and that it would probably take around 2 yrs for the rigs to come back to the gulf. Said that it wasn't a very smart move by the president to declare a moratorium on drilling.

If the moratorium = 6 months
and it tazkes 6 months to "get set up in foreign waters"..................
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...why go?

because i know i can go to work and stay at work in the foreign waters pretty much as is. as opposed to spending a bunch of time and money here in the gulf, w/ no actual guarantee that in 6 months you'll be able to return to work.
also, as operators claim force majeure to cancel rig contracts, the most likely source of a new contract would be overseas.
that said, the decision to move a rig overseas is not made lightly.

Oh the irony.

It wasn't a smart move electing that clown President. But the dumbass American public wanted it. Be careful what you wish for.

It takes less than 6 months to setup in foreign waters. It's about a 3 week sail from the GOM to the West Africa coast. Realistically these rigs can be spudding wells in West Africa in 2 months or less.
Wave bye-bye to the GOM floaters. Next stop, Angola, E.G., Nigeria, Mauritania.

Underlying lesson of this entire mess is this....ELECTIONS MATTER.
Regardless of what a disengaged, apathetic American public believes.

They'll be back. Eventually people will forget about it like they did Ixtoc, and the price of oil will be higher too. Economics will take over.

Really?
I am no Bush fan.
But the only reason to continue to mention W is to detract from the absolute unprecedented incompetence in THIS President.
This is not a back room in Chicago, or a present vote in the Senate, these are real decisions affecting America's future, and an entire regions way of life. Obama has failed. Again.

comes directly out of their playbook, Rules For Radicals. Next time you listen to Barry, count how many times he says crisis. another thing that comes out of Rules For Radicals.
