BATON ROUGE - Former LSU quarterback Nelson Stokley, who helped lead the Tigers to the 1966 Cotton Bowl and the 1968 Sugar Bowl, passed away Saturday after a lengthy illness

I remember Stokley as being my favorite Tiger QB of that time. He would have been LSU's all-time passing leader, at that time, if Charlie Mac would have let him throw more often. He could also run effectively until he blew out his knee. A great Tiger who will be missed.

Great player..one of my favorites as a kid. Got hurt(shoulder separation) and don't think he ever came back to full speed but a great Tiger!

My first memories of Stokely. I was in the submarine service which allowed very little information on what was happening above the oceans surface. I subscribed to The Morning Advocate in order to keep up with LSU Football. When we came off patrol there would be aboutsixty newspapers for me to read and learn what the Tigers were doing. Remember him in the mud against Wyoming in the 68 Sugar Bowl. He was good. RIP Nelson....
