Did the cap make this worse?

The pressure of the flow looks much worse with the cap on. Did the cap increase pressure and blow out holes below the original?

I am on my phone without access to a tv or computer. So the cap is on? And more oil is coming out than before?!

CNN showing a feed and saying that the cap is on. No confirmation from the powers that be.
The actual flow looks the same but there seems to be a lot of water movement from well below the cap. Hard to tell but it almost looks like oil is coming from several feet below the cap also.

im watching it on CNN now.
the cap is in place. what isn't confirmed is that the valve is in the "off" position. they cannot completely cut off the release of oil yet.
my question, what does this "dispersant" do? considering its being shot into the oil as it comes out

There has been a lot said about the dispersant.
My guess is that it makes life tolerable for the workers topside. I can only imagine the fumes.
The dispersant is not some PR ploy.

if they put the cap on, they then have to start sucking the oil through it right? Maybe they havent started that part yet. I am SURE BP knows what they are doing!

dispersant is basically just a detergent...makes the oil mix with water, so that it doesn't show up on the surface as that goopy sludge....

Haven't been where I could watch the video but what you are describing sounds like a venturi-effect going on. IMO, that is a good thing, as it means things are flowing up the cap (for recovery).

It is a PR ploy. if it were not for the dispersant mixing the oil and water and keeping it below the surface, therer would be a SHITTON more oil hitting the beaches of La. The images and sheer amount of oil would be an even worse PR nightmare than what they have on thier hands atm. There would be more pressure to get the leak stopped. If you could only imagine the amount of oil that would be hitting the shores without that dispersant you would understand.
While the dispersants keep the top side cleaner, the water qaulity and the habitats on the bottom of the sea in the gulf will likely be ruined. I imagine there will be lakes of oil sitting on the bottom of the gulf of mexico.

just watching last night, it looks like there is a few vents on top of the cap that would allow them to lower the unit on while venting alot of the pressure. I dont know shite for sure, but I assume they will eventully close off these vents.

There are 4 vents in the cap to hopefully stop the pipe from forming those ice crystals. they will close each vent at some time. (thats the plan)

It is a PR ploy. Out of sight out of mind was BPs philosophy. All the estimates in the beginning were based off of satellite imagery.
BP wanted to keep that number as low as possible because the number of barrels is tied to a lawsuit violating the clean water act.
BP knew all along its much easier to clean oil on the surface. But now we have huge underwater plumes that may exist for years if not decades.
