The Square (2008)

Australian Thriller by Joel Edgerton directed by his brother Nash and staring David Roberts & Claire van der Boom(The Pacific)as a pair of adulterous lovers Raymond & Carla looking to run away together with Carla's thug of husband's loot. Should be set for U.S. release sometime this year.

Carla comes home on day only to spy on her husband bloody and stuffing a gym bag full of cash. She sees this as her one golden opportunity to run away with her lover Raymond even against his best judgment. The best way Raymond can see to achieve this goal is to simply burn down the house so that Carla's husband 'Smithy' believes that it burnt. Raymond doesn't want to do the job himself so he hires freelance criminal Billy to do the job for him while the whole town is at a Christmas festival.

Naturally things go wrong unbeknown to Billy he burns the house down with Smithy's mother inside now this Raymond has made him into a sucker. Smithy discovers that the money was missing before the fire and Raymond his getting mysterious Christmas cards blackmailing him. To complicate matters Raymond a contractor has been awarding jobs for kickbacks and has no clue if that's what he's being blackmailed for or if it's his whole seedy affair with Carla.

Suspicion & deceit play their hand as the cover up leads to more deaths and soon the ill fated lovers are caught in a web they may not escape.
