LSU/Texas A&M rivalry...

how intense was this for the fans. I know of some of the BS revolving around the end of the series and whatnot. But I've heard from several Aggies down here that BR was the "one place they actually feared going", and how Tiger fans were a different breed, and just being in the stands was rough at times. Anybody have any good stories from these games?

I was little when we last played them (under 10 yrs old). I remember being amazed how there cheerleaders didn't get tired from doing all those push ups...
They always kicked our asses at the end. Thats all I remember.

Hottest football game I have ever been to was Dinardo's debut as our coach at Kyle field. It had to be hitting 130 with no wind. The concession stands ran out of water at half time.
People were dropping like flies in the 3rd and 4th quarter.
Now that is rough being in the stands.
ETA: It felt like 130 in the stands

Very intense until '91 when they DRUMMED the living shite out of us on a very hot day in College Station...a day in which they ran for over 400 yards on us and quite a way to start Hallman's season, following a previous embarrassment in Athens the week before.
'86-'90 saw us win 4/5 and the best of those games were the first ('86) and the last('90) as we were underdogs in both. '89 brings back haunting memories of Larry Horton, but he was ROCKED on Kinchen's punt return a year later.
A great series that would have been awesome when Saban arrived. I would like to play them again...perhaps go as far as letting them into the SEC, which I feel would HELP and not hinder our already progressive recruiting in and around SE Texas.

This is the main reason A&M didn't renew this series and will not renew this series: the inroads we made in recruiting Houston and SE Texas was monumental because of playing them every year.

A&M was ALWAYS a big game for most fans. Especially during the 80's & 90's during the oil business years. It was a great rivalry & a great fanbase on each side. Both places, Death Valley & Kyle field pride themselves on their home turf, which always made for some interesting road trips. Wish it would come back, would rather play the likes of A&M than ulala, mcneese, appy state, uab, etc.

I would definitely argue that someone named Butch has been a YELL LEADER for those asshats.

I hate to say this and many non-objective LSU fans will argue, but that place could get just as rowdy as Tiger Stadium. Aggie fans - sons of bitches or not - support their team from pre-kickoff to the end. I sort of envy their fans' spirit. They must not have traffic problems after games.

Nah, guys in white tight pants doing toe-touches never seem butch to me.

not football but...
but my dad always told me about our trip to College Station where we knocked off the #1 ranked Aggies (& their cleanup hitter Big John) twice on a Sunday to advance to our 1st CWS
didn't A&M have some ridiculous record that yr? 55-6 or something

the series won't be restarted unless aTm ends their series with Arkansas or they join the SEC

I was there. Big JOohn hit McDonald's first pitch waaaaay out of the park. The pa would play "Big John" by Johnny Cash when he came up to the plate. I think he whiffed the other three times, though.
One of the greatest days and nights to be a Tiger fan. Not many Tiger fans in the sea of Aggies. That team had THREE losses all season until they lost to us TWICE that day.

Did it have the same pedigree that say, a...Florida/Florida State non-conf. tilt would bring?

I was at the '95 game in Kyle Field. Even thought we lost, I thought we were on our way back, losing to #3 by 2 TD's and being in the game most of the way.
Sure enough, that season we beat Lil' Nicky in the Indy Bowl and the rest is history.
I miss College Station. The Dixie Chicken, Freebird burritos, Wings & More. Good college town.
--Jimbeaux--Game stats gave the temp as 101!!! It was HOT!

AT that time, yes, because Florida was not on the level the Noles were. Florida State finished 2nd in '87 - only losing to Miami on a failed 2 pt conversion (and beating Auburn in JHS). Florida would go to the Aloha Bowl and call it a success. The FSU/UF series never gained luster until SOS arrived and then it became one of the top 5 games every year.

I was a teenager and one of my older friends took me to a game. We bought our tickets outside the stadium and ended up sitting in different sections. The thing I remember most was the A&M fan section was packed and they cheered in unison. A&M was a football power back in the days and the games were classic.

Leeland McElroy....heard that name called all damn day. ran for 229 yds

We lost that '95 game when the fn referee through that damn flag on Faulk. We ran up the middle for like 7 yards and got the first down. He goes to the huddle and points up to. They called excessive celebration. The game went down hill from there.
