Corps permits.

When we're sure that we can force-recoup the money from BP. We can't afford to do what we want done right on our own.

I don't want to make this a states rights issue. But when is the state gonna tell the fed where to shove it and do what we believe is best for OUR coast.

I would guess the hang up for the state is that the corps has the resources (something like 12 dredges) and expertise to get the job done upon approval and could get the work done fairly quickly. Rather than the state having to hire independent dredges without the coordinated effort that would come from the corps.

I agree that the state should tell the feds to get fricked and do it ourselves but Bobby has to try all other avenues first I would guess.

It all goes back to fair revenue sharing. If we were treated equally we could handle this ourselves.

Could be a great time to call a moratorium on oil production in the St until we get what we want!

Be careful you get blasted by the industry workers when you bring this up as they worry about their jobs. Which is of course completely understandable.

But it is our leverage and a legitimate argument in favor of Louisiana. Perhaps even the mention of LA considering this move would get some attention and actual action. I'm sure Jindal could explain our situation clearly to the American people and the reasons behind our stance.

Right now BJ is hardly even mentioned as a presidential candidate. Politically this would be a great move for him if he does truly have presidential ambitions. The Feds are known for foot dragging in the time of crisis. The Corp knows no other speed than that of snail. If BJ truly wants what is right for LA marshes and wants a huge national cameo as the Bull shite has gotta stop kinda guy now is the time to pick up a big stick.

Time is running out for this move. Once the oil hits the FL keys it will be too late. At that time LA and it marshes will be a by gone thought.

The oil company operated the Deepwater Horizon rig, which exploded April 20 and sank two days later, triggering the spill that has dumped at least 6 million gallons of crude, though some scientists say it is more.

Young said Obama should pressure the Army Corps of Engineers to approve a plan to use dredged sand to build long sand berms — in effect creating new barrier islands or rebuilding old ones — to protect delicate coastal wetlands. Some of those wetlands, in Plaquemines Parish, have already been fouled by thick oil. The proposal was submitted to the corps by Jindal's administration, but the corps hasn't acted on it.

“We've given BP enough time,” Young said. “We need the president of the United States to take control of the situation.”
