Just went to the snowball stand on Old Jefferson near Beringer Foreman Rd. It's next door to a daycare... the BEST snowball ever! They have new owners. The place used to be yellow, but now it has been repainted red/white. Best shaved ice around! Do yourselves a favor and go check it out! They even have a drive-trhu.

New Orleans Snowballs on Siegen, across the from the Harley Dealership. They get their syrup and even the ice from New Orleans.
As a New Orleanian, I can honestly say that these guys sell the best and closest thing to what I've grown up on back home here in Baton Rouge.

My first few posts weren't promoting something. I was agreeing with your post if you didn't catch that.
It was just a little sarcasm. And, sorry I don't post as much as you...

Everything culinary wise, except that brown Jambalaya is better than red.

You make your own juice, however the base syrup is better when from Sno Wizard or Southern Sno, basically the same companies owned by brothers. They split the business way back, from SWizard originally.
there is a secret in making the juice.
basically it's like drinking sweet tea when you just add sugar, or when you actually cook it. you can tell the difference easily, cooked is much much better.
however it takes time, so everyone does the "uncooked", basically mixing the juice with water and sugar and the preservatives.
my old snoballs were pretty good. it brought out the natural flavors, not artificial tasting.

I lived near Tiger Bend the last few years and that snowball stand was awesome when I was there. An nice old lady ran it and always did a great job. Haven't been in a while, so I have no idea on the new owners.
I now live in the Dutchtown area and the stand on Hwy. 73, does just as good of a job as any snowball stand in N.O.. The lady that runs it even goes to the extent of asking if she put enough syrup and condensed milk. The ice is super smooth too, which is the key to a good snowball.
