If they had a bad plug at the bottom, and they were pumping bottoms up with sea water,at some point the bottom hole pressure was more than the plug could withstand. Then a big bubble of methane pushed every thing in the pipe up at an increasing speed(pressure). When the floor crew hit the kill switch it was too late.
I am no expert, but in the early 80's I worked as a derick hand on a inland barge workover rig.
I may be off base but I have seen this almost happen to us a couple of times. Not all dead wells are dead if you get my drift.I have seen sand blowing past the monkey board, And just got the trw vale on the work string in time to save the rig. Anyway when it's all said and done, it will be all said and done...

Seems to be the story they're going with.

The crane operator reported mud coming from the pipe, which they then got under control. A little while later there was another blow, with mud blowing out of the degasser. Anybody know what that means, if true? I don't mean what mud outof the degasser means, I know that. I am talking about this sequence of events" mu from drill pipe, controlled, followed by sudden and uncontrolled lfow from teh annulus.

If this is what happened there is no BOP in the world that could have functioned.

The liberal response when being told that their demands are technically unreasonable and impossible is the drilling should cease till technlogy allows it to be met.

Quick! Someone call that fat-arse gas bag, Lush Bimbo and let him know it wasn't an Obama Plot or Green Peace, or PETA trying to save the fishies!

And while you're at it, confrence-call with Faux News, 'kay?

Sounds like it wasnt a case of a "bad" lower plug but the fact that they displaced with seawater before setting the final upper plug to abandon the well. Lost hydrostatic and then goodbye well...

My hat is off to anybody to works on or has worked on a deep-water rig. I have spent the last ten working heavily with the products produced in the nat gas and petro chem industries. I have a whole new respect for the guys that tap this stuff and bring it to us to use.

The finger pointing between the three has really started in earnest. I don't think the government cares that much, but assigning the blame will be a multi-billion dollar exercise.

I was actually surprised it took as long as it did for BP to start trying to put the blame back on Transocean.

The media has seemed to forgotten that Transocean was involved until BP started pointing the finger at them.

The next few days of testimony in front of Congress should be interesting.

Wouldn't there be a float collar in the bottom of the last joint of casing? If so, how did the pressure get through that? The only eyewitness report says that there were getting flow through the drill pipe before it blew out of the degasser. How could it get through the drill pipe if the casing was hung off drill pipe?
