I don't, but my dad does government relations for Exxon. He's teamed up with some BP guys to attempt some damage control. Not really sure how it's all going to work out considering Obama just put a stop to new offshore drilling.

Almost 10 years offshore in different positions, mostly in drilling, some production. In the office the past 6 months, working with well planning and cased hole work. Not an engineer, and definitely not a down hole expert. Many of the posters have helped me understand more because of the work they do, and how they've explained it.

5 years refining and petrochem.

I use to do IT work for a logging company for 3 years, where I spent alot of time on land and offshore rigs. I currently work for a very large services company. The obama thing makes me worried, but we have alot of international work. This Obama thing will surely hurt our deepwater work. That is where most of our domestic work is.

Superficial move considering the MMS does have a lease sale for some time now. Not going to stop anything in the works (i.e. like Shell Mars B)...

10 years: 4 in production, 6 in deepwater drilling, all of it in the gulf.

So who else agrees that Transocean so far is getting a "pass"? I agree the "oil" is BP's but the rig, process and safety is Transocean. They are getting off so far unharmed. I'd be reminding people too who's rig this was... But all in all the big name is BP and that is what people are going after.

you can bet your arse that the bp lawyers will look to get compensated by transocean if the mms investigation comes back as transocean's fault.

I perform analyses to the API-579 standard every day. That's all I got.

When you lease the block, you take ultimate responsibility for all permitted activity that goes on, so the buck ultimately stops w/ BP. Furthermore, BP is hugely tied to TOI in terms of mitigating this incident (relief well and "dome"), current drilling & completion operations going on in the Gulf, and all over the world.
Now, when this is all said and done, and the root cause of the incident has been established, then i think it's fair to start divying up blame -- i'm sure a 3rd party vendor's piece of equipment will enter into the mix as well -- however, this is not the time for that finger pointing.

Nothing direct, but I have been on multiple Gulf rigs before and after deployment. Most of my knowledge comes from growing up in a position where a lot of my family, including my father, spent their entire careers in oil.

my guess is a lot of the people on the board have relevant knowledge and experience.

13 years. All in the Well Service Industry. I have worked on nearly every deepwater rig in the Gulf as well as many Shelf rigs.

Don't forget any engineer(s) that were contracted to draw up the plans for the failed areas. They too will be targeted.
