Yep, the worst NFL underachiever of all time. This is a nice little mark of distinction for the Tigers. BTW, Nick Saban recruit.

Ditto. Like Matt Flynn.

Seriously though, I hope he lands somewhere else & adds his name to the list of players that escaped the "Raider Curse".

Personally, I didn't think he was that damn great at LSU. Sure, he had some great stats. But there was no way LSU would win a NC with him at the helm. Not a team player. Thank God for Matt Flynn.

Not close.

Who was that lineman out of Nebraska? Forgot his name. He is synonymous with "Draft Bust"

ETA: Brian Bosworth was his name. I suggest some of the younuns remember that name as it will be one of the top three answers to this question
.

Dude - Bosworth was a linebacker and he was from Oklahoma. He actually played well his first 2 years in the league but was forced to retire 2 games into his 3rd season when the team doctor flunked him during his physical stating that he had "the shoulders of a 60-year old". Amazing how people like to label the controversial players, the trouble makers and drug users as the biggest "busts" of all time.

Tony Mandarich?

He actually played for more than a season I believe.

Leaf was distinguishably worse, but not a #1 pick. So I guess there's room for argument.
So does anyone think JR would have been picked before Peyton? I highly doubt it which makes that a worthless point.

Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, and Tony Mandarich are all bigger busts. Russell was never given a chance in a place like Oakland.

Jamarcus is worse then Leaf IMO. Jamarcus' Raider teams did not suck anywhere near as hard as Leafs Charger teams, Injuries didn't play a part in Jamarcus sucking AND Jamarcus went 1st.
Are you kidding? They didn't get the first pick in the draft because they were good. Their team was as bad as you can get offensively no line, no receivers and no running backs what a great situation to walk into.

Ryan Leaf, and it's not even close. If you don't believe me or you don't remember, do a google search and read up on some of the things he did. He makes Jamarcus look like a saint by comparison.

Leaf was better than Jawalrus. JR was the first choice in the draft. Leaf lasted a few years in the league. Not sure Jawalrus will get that far.

and leaf was #2 behind peyton manning

you can take all of leaf's TDs, add them up, and JR had almost as many in his 2nd season

Jamarcus hasn 't done shite. Hasn't even shown signs of life despite being the first player selected in the draft, which carries more weight than anything following. Leaf sucked as well but Russell, who was the first player selected in his draft will wipe Leaf from memory in the mind of football junkies for the forseeable future.

which is bullshite b/c leaf was worse

andre ware was a lot worse, as was akili smith, heath shuler, and dave klinger. seriously, go look up their careers

charles rogers has 36 career receptions. ki-jana carter had 1144 total rushing yards.

what about defensive guys? steve entman, courtney brown? jonathon sullivan and dwayne roberson did NOTHING while in the NFL. hell, the packers pretty much wanted to cut jamaal reynolds his rookie year

More was expected from JR than Leaf IMO.

Leaf will be forgotten by football junkies regardless of the many opinions held by tiger fans. JR was one of my favorite LSU QB's (outside of Jones and Hodson) and has become the greatest disappointment. Pretty sure he will be judged more harshly than Leaf, because more was expected from him

Maybe "I" just expected more from JR. But pretty sure he will be judged more harshly.

SFP, do you honestly think JR's stats are $28,000,000.00 better than Leaf's?

I don't see how you can look at stats alone, you have to factor in the financial investment. If its even money, nobody argues JR better, throw in 28 million, no major injuries, and he is by far and large (little pun intended) a bigger bust.

Jamarcus may yet make it. He missed the first few months of his first year due to holding out. If he gets a Marine-type mentor somehow, he can lose 44 pounds and show up this fall as a backup and maybe make it. Its still possible for him to turn his life and career around.

Leaf is all time #1 because he was an emotional flop, which is a weird variation on QB Fail.
