Jamarcus may yet make it. He missed the first few months of his first year due to holding out. If he gets a Marine-type mentor somehow, he can lose 44 pounds and show up this fall as a backup and maybe make it. Its still possible for him to turn his life and career around.

This has 0 to do concerning the topic. If JR wins 15 superbowls he is still the biggest NFL draft bust ever for getting 40 million dollars from the Raiders and the merits he achieved as the Raiders QB.

i say no way, Leaf was much bigger, maybe a few others also, mostly b/c he really wasn't that hyped up. the raiders really were not that high on JR, but did not have much choice. this top 10 draft class might go down as one of the most dissapointing in history, granted JR will lead the way, not many others have done much. A. Peterson has blossomed, but had injury and fumble questions when coming out. Calvin Johnson has done okay, and looks to be improving..Joe Thomas, Gaines Adams (rip), Levi Brown, Ted Ginn Jr, Jamal Anderson, Leron Landry and Amobi Akoye...none of these have shown they would have been better #1 picks

ESPN had a top 20 draft busts show on last week, granted it looked 4-5 years old, so not enough time to really include JR, but what i thought was interesting were 4 Penn St. running backs...Blair Thomas, Kijana Carter, Rashan Salam and 1 other who escapes me.

IF JR was never to play in the NFL again.... we can have this discussion.

But let's assume for a minute that he doesn't...

THE ANSWER BASED ON WINNING % and the amount of money paid vs. production...

then unfortunately ABSOLUTELY YES!!!!!!

Leaf by a mile. Not only because he was such a bust in the NFL, but he's continued to make a hash of things after leaving.

From his Wiki page:

quote:

On May 21, 2009, Leaf was indicted on burglary and controlled substance (prescription painkillers) charges in Texas. Leaf was reportedly undergoing drug rehab in British Columbia at the time of the indictment[43] and would be arrested by customs agents as he returned to the United States from Canada. On June 17, 2009, he posted a $45,000 bond in Washington for the charges out of Texas.[44] On April 14, 2010 Leaf pleaded guilty in Amarillo, Texas to seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of delivery of a simulated controlled substance, all felonies. State District Judge John B. Board sentenced Leaf to 10 years of probation and fined him $20,000.

It's about NFL career ONLY. You think some "greats" were great off the field too? Some were much worse than Leaf, but are regarded as "great" anyway.

JR as of now, this day, is the biggest bust ever based on where picked and how much money paid vs. stats. He has regressed to a guy nobody really wants after just 3 seasons.

That equals biggest bust ever...as of now.

Interesting notes out of the Raider's minicamp. This coming from the AFC West blogger from ESPN.

"Russell was truly the most impressive quarterback on the field Friday"

Thoughts?

You didn't define "biggest", so the arguments are non-terminal. Of course this is The Rant.

JaMarcus' problem is that he was so physically talented that he didn't have to work very hard to be successful in college FB. Now that he is in the NFL, where everyone is at the same talent level, his lack of work ethic is showing. He would have better served by being a wee bit less talented (such as Tim Tebow, who although talented in his own right, was not so physically gifted).

But no, JaMarcus isn't the biggest bust ever.

P.S. At least Bosworth was good for comic relief.

Good question. I'd say he's up there with Leaf and Mandarich at this point.

Dude was a LB for the Sooners. I really wouldn't consider him a bust. He was productive for the Seahawks, the only thing people seem to remember about him is Bo Jackson running him over at the goal line though.

Also Tony Mandarich was pretty solid with the Colts in his later years. I think he started but I could be wrong.

I'd say this is a bit over the top.

What?

A. Peterson: first or second best back in the league, All-Pro.

Calvin Johnson: Top 4 reciever in the league, All-pro.

Joe Thomas: All-pro, top 3 Left tackles in the League.

I dont know where you get your info from. Personally I think Leaf was just as big a bust as Russell but the fact that the Raiders wasted 3 years on Russell makes him #1.

I think Calvin is great, but has he been All-pro yet?

well, i clearly said peterson has blossomed, but there were more ?'s about him come draft day then JR. There were some teams who did not have Peterson on their draft board at all due to his injury history, and Johnson i do not believe has made a pro bowl, much less all pro, he is in the 15-20 range of NFL receivers production wise, not top 4. Joe Thomas has been very succesful.
