A bust? Yes. Biggest ever? Lol hell no.

You guys ever heard of Ki-Jana Carter?

At least you could argue that injury killed Ki-J as opposed to those incredible In-N-Out burgers.

They took out Troy Smith as well.

True, but none of these guys were picked #1 overall. I think this is the main thing that makes this argument valid.

Brian Bosworth

No, bigger than Bosworth were some other linemen, for example, Tony Madarich- people were calling him Hall of Fame material before he ever took the field- complete bust. There were others, too, like Walt Patulski of Notre Dame; the list goes on & on...

Not that this matters, but as an LSU fan, I have NO pity whatsoever for JR. After that "Bama Boy" shite during the MNC interview, I personally lost all respect for that arsehole. He represented LSU in a primetime slot donning that bullshite?...

Jamarcus Russell...and his frickin' "Bama Boy" arse...

Tony Mandarich is above all. Didn't he challenge Mike Tyson to a bout?

Mandarich actually somewhat redeemed himself by coming back and playing a few years with the Colts after his flameout.

I don't think he can be be considered the biggest bust ever...he still has a chance to redeem himself...but he's quickly on his way there.

Ryan Leaf career stats:
25 games/21 starts-4 wins
317 completions
655 attempts
48.5%
14 TDs
36 INTs
3,666 yards
QB rating 50.0

Jamarcus Russell career stats:
31 games/25 starts-9 wins
324 completions
680 attempts
52.1%
18 TDs
23 INTs
4,083 yards
QB rating 65.2

Russell's stats are definitely not good, but Leafs are hot garbage.

I dunno? Has JR reached 400 lbs. yet? JK

I felt for him when drafted by the Raiders, however he has outdone my worst expectations.

If only someone could catch up to those 80 yd bombs he can throw.

i don't know about the biggest bust, but, when it showed that clip with him wearing all that bling crap, i started to care less at that point.

On another site when he was at LSU I said he would have trouble in the pros due to his work ethic and understanding of the subtleties of the game. I was understandably chastised, and let it go, as it was an unsolvable opinion match. I really do not know why he is being demoted, if he actually is at this time, and am sorry I may have been right, as he is one of our graduates.

Ryan Leaf. Long ago, John Matuszak, though he came around.

I think the jury is still out....

Leaf certainly deserves mention, as does kijana carter, tim couch, akili smith, andre ware,Todd Marinovich......

But Tony Mandarich gets my vote...this guy was going to be the "best offensive lineman ever"...he was on the cover of SI before he was drafted.. the term "big for nothing" comes to mind.

No.

I'd say Ryan Leaf followed by Tim Couch, JR and maybe Brian Bozworth. Couch and JR had detractors and JR was drafted mostly on "potential". Also, he still has a chance to salvage his career. After two years, you would have called Chris Carter a major bust. Now, he's a Hall of Famer. Also, Ryan Leaf was touted by some as better than Peyton Manning. As for Tony Mandarich, he's the story that warns against drafting on potential and numbers. He also went to Indianapolis and had a decent career there.

Leaf-4 games for 11.25 million
Russell- 7 wins for 39.5 million.

its close, but I got 28 million reasons why JR is the bigger bust. I know 11mill was big at the time, but with the rookie salary cap next season, this may be the most $ ever given to a player without playing a single down in the NFL. $5,600,000+ a win. Ridiculous

Edit: Even if he wins 6 superbowls somewhere else, $5.6 million a win for 7 wins is a bust any way you slice it up
