DRT 04.28.10: Reds/Astros Battle Continues

The Reds continue their series against Houston tonight after winning Game 1, 6-2. Ryan Hanigan drove in three runs, threw out Bourn trying to steal second, and was rewarded by getting today off. frick you, Dusty. He did manage to keep Phillips in the 2-hole tonight, although I personally think he should be benched tonight for the way he got picked off 1st base last night. Here's the lineup:
1. CF Stubbs
2. 2B Phillips
3. 1B Votto
4. 3B Rolen
5. RF Bruce
6. SS Cabrera
7. LF Nix
8. C Hernandez
9. P Leake
Stubbs is now hitting .150 after striking out two more times yesterday. Pathetic.
Felipe Paulino will be pitching for the Astros tonight. First pitch is at 7:05 CDT.
Standings Update:
1. St. Louis (13-7)
2. Chicago (10-11)
3. Cincinnati (9-11)
3. Milwaukee (9-11)
5. Houston (8-11)
6. Pittsburgh (8-12)

We knew this going in.

Nice of BP to wave at the camera after being picked.
Hanigan seems to have beaten the "he can't hit with RISP" bug. But yeah anyone who follows this team had to see the Hernandez start coming from a mile away.

I get the feeling that Hanigan is going to start a lot more in the near future though.

The entire NL is within 5 games of each other. It's actually quite amazing, IMO.

Got tickets right behind 1B, couldn't get the damn suite tickets, i'll work on it though. These were still company tickets and free though.

I can't wait to see where my seats are on Friday night in St. Louis. The company that gave them to us is one of our vendors, and they are one of the minority owners of the Cardinals.

Also i have really been enjoying the Jay Bruce of the last week vs the crap basket that started the season. I really hope i get to see him gun down someone, that kids got a laser.

we're 20 games into the season. thats really not that amazing at all.
in fact there are only 3 teams in baseball that are more than 5 back of the division leader. and 2 of those 3 are just 6 back.

Yea, but in the AL, you can already see who's got no chance. The NL is very bunched. It's unusual not to have at least 1 or 2 teams not standing out as great and at least 1 or 2 as total garbage.

How's Bruce progressing ? Haven't really been paying attention to baseball ye this year. What is the expectations for him ? Plus the first baseman from Miami ? How will that play out with Votto ?

He's been better the past week or so. At the beginning of the year, he was hitting the ball well, but got some bad luck and you could tell it was frustrating him.
He still gets handcuffed by left handed pitching.

In AA playing left field.

If this experiment works out, it wont.

Sounds like Towles. He had a nice game in Chicago a while back, hit a homer and drove in a couple of runs and sat the next day. Happened again the next week. He had a double and an RBI last night and I don't think hes in the lineup tonight. Its dumb as hell but Quintero catches Wandy, Meyers and Paulino. Hes been the catcher Wandy is most comfortable with for a while so that should be the only start he gets through the rotation. Hes a perpetual black hole. Theres at least some help for Towles

A pitcher that skipped the minors should not be 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA.
especially when he pitches for the Redlegs.
