I've asked the OT for help but they're all morons so I thought I'd ask on here. Would anyone be willing to let me email my resume to them and give it a quick critique?

I am not good at that type thing, but LSU has bound to have a department that helps with career placement that could look over it for you.

My advice is keep your resume no longer than 2 pages. One page is even better. And lead with your most relevant work experience.

I've never hired someone, or even interviewed someone, based on how pretty their resume was. So the quality of what is on the resume is more important than the appearance of it.

Very true. But, you would be amazed at how many resumes I've seen w/ spelling and grammatical errors. If you don't care enough to get your resume error free....trash can you go.

My technical writing instructor at LSU was hard core when it came to resumes. One page and one page only. If you've been working 25+ years, maybe two. Also, no large white spaces. She kept saying that everyone writes very few words on a line and then goes to then next one over and over just to get a longer resume. In reality, she was sooooo right. The times I've hired people, I've seen plenty 4 page resumes that leave the right half of the pages blank. Usually put those in the can right away.

Oh and also, don't put "references available upon request" at the top. If you're getting hired for a professional job, they have the right to ask for references. Have them ready. It's expected. Save that room on your resume for something else.

Ms Normand?

I can write a bad arse resume. My old roommate from LSU put his name and address on mine and got his job out of school.

A few quick thoughts (not directed to the resume of the original poster, just in general)

...no periods at the end of non-sentence bullet points
...and be consistent throughout with either sentences or phrases
...and please proofread for spelling and grammar
...and do not mention that you are proficient with Internet and World Wide Web
...and nobody cares about personal attributes such as "team player" -- imply it through documented results
...and have a targeted, non-hokey objective statement
...nobody cares that your personal interests are hunting and collecting stamps
...no expection to the one-page resume (except academia); if you have done that much, then your selected bullet points should all represent awesome, compelling responsibilities/results and still be on one page
..do not put references available upon request -- maybe just specify if they are NOT available upon request
...etc
