Nothing in the article about them moving to Vegas, but it looks like the Pacers are using the old moving card, to get Indy to renegotiate the lease on the arena by June 30

The Casinos wont allow for a team based in Vegas to be bet on, security reasons. Therefor Vegas doe not want a NBA, NHL, MLB franchise. So wrong city to use a hostage taker.

This isn't true. Las Vegas has been wanting a pro team for years. Our Mayor Oscar Goodman even made it one of his goals to acquire one before he's done. Like the other guy said, the problem is with the actual professional leagues and gambling. A proposed solution has been to eliminate gambling on that sport which joins, but the casinos don't want that solution.
Here's a good quote I read awhile back from another sports site.
quote:
The population of Las Vegas has tripled over the course of the last 20 years to 1.8 million, and it remains one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Its economy pumps out a staggering $72 billion annually, with nearly 38 million tourists blowing through town each year and contributing their mortgage/retirement/child's college fund to that honey pot. If we assume three-fifths of all Las Vegas visitors are sports fans, that would yield a pool of roughly 24 million fans to draw from.

The Casinos dont put a line on any UNLV game. It is the casinos not the NBA.

Casinos have lines on UNLV games all the time. Now, if they had an NBA team here, that may change.
The Lakers used to play a handful of "home games" in Las Vegas back in the mid 80's. In fact, when Kareem Abdul - Jabbar broke the all time NBA scoring record, he did it at a game here.

I did not know they changed their rules.
But here is a link and quote to support what I said.

The Blue Devils opened at even money Monday in future book betting at the Las Vegas Hilton and were quickly bet to a 3-5 favorite.
"As far as I can remember, Duke is the biggest favorite to open in the last 10 years," said Chuck Esposito, assistant sports book manager at the Las Vegas Hilton. "UNLV was in 1991, but, of course, we couldn't put it up."
Nevada sports books can't take bets on state teams, but UNLV, coming off the 1990 NCAA championship, would have been the favorite for the 1991 tournament.

Move them to Baltimore in the middle of the night and make them wait twelve years for another NBA team.

Ok, first of all..yes you can bet on UNLV.
Second of all..yes for awhile you couldn't, but now you can.
Third, think about what your saying. Casinos don't want to make money?...think about that..

I would hope Vegas would change the name if they got a team. I want the Jazz back.

I do admit to not knowing they changed the law about UNLV games.
Ok the Nevada State Gaming Commision doesnt allow for pro teams with a home base in Nevada to have lines at the Casinos in Nevada. If the NBA has a team in Vegas they will lose money through the lost wagers. So the casinos dont want a team in Nevada.

Of all the discussions I've heard about Vegas getting an NBA team the wagering has never been mentioned as a problem.
NBA has summer league in Vegas, had an all-star game there and no problems.

Most problematic all star game of all time arguably. But, not really any of the same problems that would affect a team that was there on a constant basis

Whoever proposed that should have been fired on the spot.
Dumbest proposition ever.
