No, no one can bash Blake Dean. Without him, we do not get to Omaha the last two years. Still, I really think he's capable of a .400, 20, 100 type of season. That's a compliment to him. He;s one of the best pull hitters in LSU histy...no denying.

I believe Mainieri needs to put someone like Gaudet who is leading the team in HR's behind Dean. Kind of like Larussa does with Pujols and Holliday. Give Dean a chance to see some better pitches

That's a big reason why Dean had the monster sophomore season he did .. He had Matt Clark hitting behind him in the order .. He saw some pretty good pitches to hit .. Gibbs is having a great year .. but not a Matt Clark year power wise ..

If it was mostly Matt Clark, then how did Dean put up such good numbers last season?

I certainly hope so. Dean is 2nd in RBI's with 38. Gaudet has 39 RBI's. Of the starting players, Dean's fielding % is the highest at .996 and he is batting 336. Seems like he is doing better than the other players. The others need to pick up their play. Baseball is a team sport.

Exactly. He's shown he will have a long slump every season and then come out of it and put the team on his back in the postseason. I'm not worried.

Besides, he's still hitting 336/423/504, which is pretty darn good.

It really is a weird perception Dean has right now, its like people forget he's hitting .330 and think he's hitting like .220

While I think bashing Dean is silly, these numbers prove nothing. RBI is mainly a function of batting order, and Dean hits in the middle of a potent lineup, behind a bunch of OBP machines. And if your 1st baseman ISN'T leading your team in fielding percentage, then it is quite likely your 1st baseman sucks. They get tons of easy put outs.

He has one error for the season. By comparison, Mikie Mahtook has 3.

Why aren't people getting on Leon Landry more? At least Dean is a proven commodity. Leon is once again struggling in the later part of the season at the plate. Him and Dean almost have the same average in SEC play. They are hitting .233 and .231 respectively in SEC play.

I think Dean is a great college hitter. But he has become overrated to me personally because I have such high expectations every time he bats. Hopefully he turns in on soon.
