I've had some pretty good meals there, when I've attended conferences held at the Hilton. I don't like the gumbo, there, though. There's a strange flavor and something about the shrimp that I can't put my finger on. Interesting thing is that you can order the gumbo with or without okra. I think cook it in per order, so it hasn't been cooked to death, if you're an okra lover.

The place has always been packed at lunch when I've been there.

Old Tyme Grocery sucks, period. I don't know why people rave about that place. If you want a shrimp poboy made with frozen shrimp that haven't been deveined and taste like iodine, then by all means, help yourself. The last time I went in there to pick something up for someone else, the refrigerated case was full of the processed roast beef loafs they use in their sandwiches. Boy, that made me hungry.

T-Coons is solid plate lunch food.

Jesus there are some haters on this board. If Olde Tyme is not good enough for your taste then go to

Chris's Poboys and get the Chris's special...Amazing sandwich.

Or there is this mexican Tequira on Eraste Landry that has the best homemade mexican food in lafayette IMHO

I hear you. the least they could do is chop up the manda loaf and mix some mcormicks packet of brown gravy and cook that shite a little bit... then you would have some gravy with the beef.

I recall a thread on the place, some time back. The poster said it was very good. Search and you might find it. I'm not sure if the website was up yet, at the time.

On second thought, I'm not sure if that thread was on Pamplona's. I know it was on a new restaurant in downtown Lafayette. I think they had poboys on the menu, though. Hopefully, someone else can clarify my possible blunder.

Pamplonas was good. They've changed chefs and they've changed the menu. I went a couple of weeks ago and was really disappointed. I can't remember the last time I asked for salt in a restaurant. To their credit, they're trying, but the food is just flat.
