In a cook off for sure. For home consumption I don't care.

Not trying to answer for these guys, but a real judge will slam you if he sees beans or vegetable chunks in your chili,IMHO.

I will add my voice to the chorus. I like beans in my chili at home, but competition=purism. No beans

Several say no beans in a cookoff. Is there a reason or just that no one else does it that wins. Have looked at some online recipes from "champion" chili and see no beans.

Chili purists are fanatical about no beans in chili. I guess that is why.

You could emulsify a small amount of beans for texture and taste. But don't have the beans visible.

Where's the cookoff?

Texans are known to be particularly adamant about the no-beans stricture.

I do this with a can of beans pretty often. You'll get the texture and flavor, and the 'no beans" crowd is never put on notice.

If a judge saw this during competition it would be bad news. Chili cook-offs make BBQ cook-offs look like childs play.

True. Not a technique for a cook off at all, but it makes a good chili.

No beans, here, but you could google some chili cookoffs to see what you find.
