In response to negative posts about new TE coach hire, (long)...I

found these posts on other sites and thought they were excellent and needed to be posted here:
(sorry they are long, so if you are one of those here who cannot read more than two sentences, don't read this; I did edit out some to shorten):
I like the Ensminger hire. He has good experience at major schools across the southeast, he is a former player who we know will do everything he can to win here.
And what exactly were people expecting us to hire for the TE's coach that would wow them? Hall of fame NFL tight ends like Kellen Winslow or Mike Ditka? Did they think that maybe we would get Saban or Jon Gruden to come in an coach tight ends?
Do they think this hire is going to make or break this team?
Give me a f______ break.
This guy is a good hire for this program, the s___ we are reading on the internet only enforces what we have been saying all along.
People will go to any length to spew negative s___ about Miles and the team now.
I guess the next thing will be that the grad assistants we bring in for this year suck or that the student trainers we have shouldn't be there. How about the team doctor, the fact that James Andrews isn't the team doctor shows that Miles really sucks and he needs to go.
The Truth About Steve Ensminger
________________________________________
After reading all of the negative posts all over the place regarding Steve Ensminger returning to LSU, I felt it was about time somebody actually told the truth about the situation.
Steve has been hired to be the TE's coach at LSU, not the Qb coach. He was hired because he was hands down the best interview of the seven people interviewed as per the coaches.
....... He decided to leave the security of that job, risk his family's financial future, to come to LSU and pursue his dream job KNOWING the pressure cooker he is walking into under Miles....
How about someone standing up for someone who would run through a wall to get to Baton Rouge after Miles wouldn't even grant him an interview even after Tommy Tuberville even called in a recommendation. How about standing up for someone that actually played for LSU and has a part in the tradition??
Yes, Steve coached at Smith Station H.S. in Alabama last year. After no interview from Miles - after passing on several offers including following former Auburn DC Paul Rhoads to Iowa State. He stayed for several reasons - 1) he had two years left to be vested in Alabama - this cut it in half, 2) his youngest daughter was entering her senior year of high school, and 3) Tommy Tuberville was a good bet to take him with in 2010 wherever he landed.
As fate would have it, Tuberville lands Texas Tech. He's smart to keep the air raid offense - has to hire from the Mumme, Leach, coaching tree and settles on 29 year old Neal Brown from Troy as OC who played for Mumme and Leach at Kentucky .......Needless to say Tuberville couldn't stick Steve down Brown's throat and Brown was a little wary so Tuberville hires Steve as offensive quality control (in the box for the game) and high school relations. Steve could have easily stayed put at Texas Tech as long as Tuberville was there and gotten his benefits from the state of Texas (He would have been vested in texas retirement system with two more years there).
This brings me to Steve Ensminger as a coach. Would this be an exciting hire if he was offensive coordiinator?? No! As tight ends??? It's a solid hire. He is a good x's and o's coach. He knows the game and more importantly knows the RUNNING GAME. The offenses he has been affiliated with have usually been good running teams. He gives them an extra voice on offense. He gives them a position coach who help get back the aggressive edge on the line of scrimmage. As much as everyone wants to talk about Jordan Jefferson, if LSU doesn't get better on the line of scrimmage and finish higher than 11th in the SEC in rushing this year - we'll be looking at a whole new staff a year from now.
Steve is a good recruiter, not a great one. ...... This staff doesn't need another recruit only guy - they have the talent - they need to cultivate it.
The bottom line is that is a good hire but it's the TE coach! What's the last great TE hire? How many staff's are made or lost on this hire??? A memo to Tiger fans - Jon Gruden, Tony Dungy, nor Bill Cowher were interested in this position.
I'm tired of the negativity around this place. It's the same reason half the ex-players want nothing to do with this program - the 10 percent of the fans that are flat out assholes. The guy mentioned earlier on this board who posted on Sonny Shipp's board. What does he know about anything? He's part of the problem! Who the hell is Sonny Shipp and does he have a clue about how to put a jock strap on correctly?
How about someone applaud a former LSU player who is rolling the dice because he wants a chance to come to his dream job and try to fix the situation and not run to flippin' Conference USA to coach special teams. How about someone say something positive about this program because like it or not Les Miles is the head coach next year.

the Frank Wilson and Gonzalez hires were highly applauded, so it's bullshite that everyone is out to get Miles and will bash him for everything. Make a good hire, and most ppl will give credit.

I think SE is a GREAT hire...because he will be able to recruit well......he LOVES LSU....and most important, he knows a lot on the O side of the football.
Les has done a GREAT job getting Wilson, Ensminger and Gonzales.

I posted it before, and I'll post it again ... Welcome Home Steve!
I see nothing wrong with the hire. It's an opportunity to bring a former Tiger back in the fold. Those bashing the hire have their own personal agenda, and that's to criticize anything and everything Miles does ... for them, nothing will change until Miles in gone.

What I want to know is WHO do the people who are bashing this hire "think" would have been a better hire? This is a message board & people have their right to their opinions BUT if 1/2 of these people, asking for 100% would just be silly, would just take away their "I HATE LES MILES" glasses & just look at the hire as what it is, I think a whole lot of undies would be unknotted. Steve was not hired as the OC, he has been hired to coach tight ends & recruit. Who else is out there that Miles could have gained a little credit by going after? Apparently former players with SEC coaching experience is not good enough. geez!

Overall good post. Steve is a solid hire and hopefully it will be a long term postive move for him.

What makes you think you know enough about coaching in the SEC to be able to pick a good hire over a bad one?
We know it's not everyone who is out to get Miles, but it is fools such as you who make LSU and LSU fans look like girlie men with your whining.

I like the hire. Welcome back Steve! Oh and, he's a tight end coach guys, no big deal. Don't bash this hire. It's stupid to do so.
