Pay close attention to your card bills this month

I just went online to pay my Amex bill. My closing date has been the 27th of the month since I got the card in 1993 so I pay in full on the 26th. This month they decided to change my closing date to the 24th. Nothing about that on my statement and my account was listed as past due.
After going round and round with and arguementative Punjab the service rep, I got a manager who blamed it all of the CC laws and made my account current again.
So pay attention to those closing dates. You may need to adjust any automatic payments you have set up.

I've got two credit cards. A small credit line card ($700) that I use for every day and on-line purchases and a larger credit line ($10K) card I use for bigger purchases. I use the smaller one so that if the number is ever compromised, the most I can lose is $700.
I always pay them both off at the end of the month. A friend of mine had a similar situation happen to him last month, so this month I paid off the full balances on both cards TWICE. I'm going to go back on March 15 and pay them off again.

How do you go about getting a card with that low of a credit limit? Is it something you can just ask the CC company for?

I've had it for a whiel. I got it right out of college. They've tried to raise the limit but I tell them I don't want it raised whenever they try.

What is the point of getting a credit card with a low credit limit? If your credit card number is compromised, your not responsible for the charges anyway. I understand using a cc instead of a check card since they can raid your checking account with your check card and it takes a while to get your money back, but for credit card, its the credit card co.'s problem.

Not all the time. And, many times they'll fight you. If I lose $700, I can live with that.

I mentioned this on another thread earlier as someone else was talking about fraud protection, but there is a common misconception about credit cards. Federal law protects you from any exposure greater than $50 if the charge was unauthorized. If you want the specific language, look at Title 15 USC Section 1643...
Don't let card companies convince you to agree to pay for unauthorized charges.
