Wish I could remember the name of the best place I ate up there
Had the best chicken and mushroom pot pie in the world, probably the best meal I have ever eaten actually. I will get on this and find out the name

Jojo is a nice fine dining restaurant. It won't break the bank unless you go over board.

There is also a great Italian restaurant in the Upper East Side called il Vagabondo. That was a really cool classic Italian food, and not very expensive.

Balthazar. It is a French cuisine, very similar to Galatoire's in atmosphere. Very good.

There's a cafeteria on the 4th floor of Trump Towers on 5th Avenue..

A search on TD will provide you with hundreds of other threads on this exact topic. Congratulations to you and the Mrs.

There was a place in Upper East Side called Gino.
They take cash only. Menu's are handwritten in cursive. Red walls with zebra's. My wife and I really enjoyed it and it didn't break the bank.

If on a budget, I'd do several (relatively) inexpensive ethnic meals for supper (Korean BBQ, authentic chinese), but budget for one expensive meal (I'd do Gramercy Tavern). Save money on lunch (slices of pizza, street food/street meat).

no problem..

I would recommend Tavern on the Green as a " spot you have to hit" but they closed down recently. Pretty sad for such a staple that place was.

Essex off of delancy st in the lower east side is really good for brunch on Sunday. You get 3 bloody marys, screwdrivers or mimosas included with your meal and it's only 18 bucks. And it it really good food.

Only person I've ever heard say that. Conventional wisdom sort of always regarded this place as one of the most overrated dining experiences in the country.

FWIW, they are in the process of bidding out the operation to a new outside vendor, and are supposed to reopen. The Commanders Palace Brennans were actually in the running for a short while, but they pulled out.

Agreed.

For the situation for the guy who started the thread though, I conceded this option. The wife and I went on our trip. She, as a woman, " had to go"

We looked at each other when it was over and said " The place we ate at last night was better"

I guess its one of those things you " have to do" and scratch if off the list, as a woman.

If you're interested in an obscure, very locals only restaurant where you can see the real Downtown NY crowd and have some unique, inspired Asian cuisine presented in a way that you will only find in NY.. my suggestion is Kittichai

This is Adam Platt's Where to Eat in NYC.. Platt is the New York magazine food critic. This list will tell you what, where, and how much.. Where to Eat 2009
