I will be taking the wife to Chicago in a few months for our anniversary and am looking for a few good ideas on restaurants. I would like to hit the good local spots during the day and for a few dinners (fancy not needed) but would like to do one nice dinner one night ($100 to $130 range).
What you got F&D board?

I'm a big fan of the Weber Grill Steakhouse downtown.

Just came back from Chicago actually...
If you like sushi, there is a local favorite called "Toro Sushi" in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. They have the best sushi I've tasted in awhile, and you can byob. There's always a pretty long wait, so you go there, put your name down, then walk to a bar to wait and then they call you. Pretty awesome.
As for steaks, Gibson's is the definite local favorite. A lot of Chicago celebs and "who's who" go there. We went on a Thursday night and it was pretty kicking. They have a piano player in the bar too. It's located in the Gold Coast neighborhood.
For pizza, you can't really go wrong with any of the places. I tried Lou Malnati's and Gino's, and liked Malnati's the best.
There are some good sandwich shops tucked in everywhere you go, so just be on the lookout.
Anyway, the Gold Coast area is known as the "Viagra Triangle." Apparently a lot of businessmen try to hook up with much younger women in this area... so watch out.
All in all, you'll enjoy it.

Alinea is great BUT you are going to pay. 150 a head minimum. I really enjoyed Frontera Grille and Tolombolamo, Rick Bayless places next door to each other. I can do without their Pizza, deep dish isnt my thing

There is a place right by Lincoln park, an old Italian restaurant. I can't remember the name of it for anything but they have pizza in a bowl which was damn good, and the bread they do for an appetizer was really good. Fun place to go not the best of prices but really fun time.

+1 on Lou Malnati's for pizza
Dessert at Alinea
I have heard from many that Charlie Trotter's is great...but have never been.
We ate at Bluewater Grill and it was fantastic. Unfortunately, it's now closed.

I'd try Carrabbas or Flemings. I hear they are stellar in Chicago.
