Draft Possibility

Assuming we keep Bush and Pierre,do you think we draft a running back? I would think that we will keep Hamilton and cut or trade Bell. His SB performance left a lot to be desired, imho.
I would think that we would want a workhorse type of back, that can play FB if need be.
what do you think about Toby Gerhart? he projects 2nd-3rd, but I think its possible that he drops to the 4th, considering the "white running-back" stigma.
I know defense is a priority, but we need some fresh legs at the RB position. I would like to hear some opinions. Sorry if Germans.
Here's his stats:
Toby Gerhart
Toby Gerhart 2

Huh? Our RBs are young, fairly healthy, and have pretty low mileage. It's not like they're coming off of a Larry Johnson-esque 350 carry season.

Someone like Heath Evans would fit good in such a role
Loved the Payton mic up- Bell had "the wrong fricking shoes on"

Heath is 31yo. He missed 9 games. I think the world of him, but it doesn't hurt to have depth.

You didn't mention Evans so I threw him in the mix. I think he played superbly before injury. One of his reasons for signing here was to get more touches and play a more significant role. I think Hamilton plays a lot of the pounder role too. He was dinged up quite a bit during the year too though.
I can't see RB being much of a priority but you take any position when they slip to you a round or so lower than you ranked them.
Scouting-
He has deceptive speed (4.55), but can't consistently turn the corner. Gerhart also does not have a second gear, and has limited experience pass blocking. His route running is inconsistent, at best and he has a poor feel for reading coverage. Gerhart is a player without a position; he is not fast enough to be a future back and not big enough to be a fullback.
Gerhart is a good, overall prospect with limited upside. His lack of explosiveness will most likely confine him to an H-back type of role in the NFL.
-------------
Gerhart may be the best short-yardage running back in this year's class but his lack of speed may limit his ability to start in the NFL. He doesn't have the ability to make guys miss, and it will be tough to hold up as a starting running back in the NFL with his bruising style. That said, if he is paired with a change-of-pace back to take away some carries he could be extremely productive in a reduced role.
-------------
A scan of some overall boards finds Gerhart at 69, 83, 78, 73, 76
So it would seem he could be in the realm of possibility at #95. At #127 he would be a legitimate consideration regardless of need.

Just to clear up any confusion, no chance in hell we take a running back at 32
Let's move along now

what if Beanie Wells is available?

Excellent info!
I agree 100% about Evans. He is on my short list of favorite players. Wouldn't hurt to have a clone of him. Gerhart would be a project, but I believe he has potential.
I just have a gut feeling that Payton will pull the trigger on a RB at some point. Here's a vid.

Hamilton? Really?
This doesn't seem familiar?
The guy was money until he hurt his ankle....
....and kept on playing.
Granted, he doesn't have Bell's experience... but he's a hammer on special teams and has tons of upside.

I wonder why the Bills never made Steve Tasker their in between the tackles RB. He was awesome on kickoff team.

Because he was a wide receiver?

I think any time you can use a 1st round pick on a guy who isn't as good as the people you already have, at a position of strength, you need to pull the trigger.
ETA the only way this idea could have been worse is if you would said we needed to trade up to make sure we got him

Were you worried that the general public would be unable to detect your sarcasm originally?

does gerhart have good hands?
pretty sure we're not gonna draft anyone who can't catch the ball
and that is why we even looked at evans in the first place....drew wants as many weapons as possible
