I have been there twice. It was great. They do have a lunch buffet during the week.

quote:No it would not. You would not be the only white boy i there. Most times I got it's close to 60/40. There are a shite load of white folks in that area ya know. The owners are quite religious and open their arms to the ol devil white man.
Would it be awkward to eat there is you're white? Serious question
It amazes me how many parts of BR are thought to be a certain way just because they are above the mason dixon line.

true. and sadly they miss out on a lot of the old line food spots with character and soul.

Myrin Mixon would eat there and he would walk thru Mamas living room too!

Myron Mixon would eat any damn where he wants to, no matter what the place looks like. He just wants some god damned good food, and don't give no shite about where he damn gets it.

Our lunch bunch went on Friday. Place is really nice and very clean inside. Ethnic mix diverse, but probably 60-70% WASPs. Greeted by the owner, and we had great service throughout the meal. What they have is not really a buffet per se, rather a buffet type setup with a choice of meats and vegetables you pick from. The lunch was a meat with 2 sides (about 6-8 vegetables and a couple of desserts to choose from) with bread for $7.95-10.95. I had the fried chicken with sides of collard greens and a corn/baby lima mix (which I grew up calling succotash, but one of my coworkers said it needed tomatoes and okra to be called that). Chicken was crispy and good flavor, corn/bean mix tasty, but the greens were some of the best I have had in town. Definite presence of bacon fat in the flavoring. Cornbread was a bit sweeter than I like, but fresh. Others at the table had gumbo (a bit salty, but loaded with sausage and seafood), fried shrimp off the menu (large fresh shrimp) and baked fish ($10.95, which is high for catfish or tilipia (he couldn't tell which it was), but the portion was huge. Everyone got different sides and all said they were good (cabbage, yams, mac and cheese, carrot souffle', etc.)
All in all a good experience, and if you judge a good place by how many cops are eating there, they had that covered. Next week, we are going to hit up the new home location of Silver Moon-it has been forever since I have had a good brown gravy out. And even though we could walk there, we didn't know she was cooking again. TD F&D board-covering dives around town for years.

One will be released very soon. If memory serves me correctly she is having a release party in march with her nephew Ken will play with his band MoJeaux. He used to work the counter at the original site. I will try to call her to ck on the book.
Egg ck the silver moon is back thread for location and contact details.
