Most intense wartime movie I've seen since Saving Private Ryan.
Can't believe I haven't watched it sooner.

the most unrealistic war movie I've seen in a long time. taking a step back and looking at it from a civilians POV it is a very intense movie. looking at it as a service member who has served in combat and who has had to deal with EOD on numerous occasions I can tell you this movie is far from reality and is laughable at best.

Thanks for serving and all but why is there always someone like you in every war movie thread. We(people who havent served) like these type of movies even if they have to beef it up a bit, stop trying to bust everyone's bubble.

Do you think movies of this type do a disservice to members of the Military?

Something like 70% of all those who served in WW II were never in a combat position. But they never made a movie about a supply clerk in Liberal, KS. I guess you could put Taking Chance in this category. But most movies about this subject are negative towards the military; A Few Good Men; the hundreds of movies about military coverups.

True life rarely translates directly into a good movie. Too complex and drawn out for that. You need a book for that. Blackhawk Down and We were Soldiers veered from the real story, but were still excellent movies and gave me a greater appreciation for what our service members do.

I'm not trying to argue, just putting my opinion out there and asking for your opinion.

well for example how the guys are always going off by themselves, which was the case for the entire movie, the way they interact, the way they had free reign over any situation. it is not a little unbelievable but entirely unbelievable. the is a fine example of hollywood not taking enough time or really not giving a shite how to accurately portray combat. EOD will not go out without at least an entire platoon supporting them, which is almost always the unit which finds the ied. then EOD proceeds to take 4 hrs figuring out how to action on the ordnance, then they drive their robot up to it to look at it for about 1hr, then finally they just blow it the frick up.

I was just saying if movies went by the military book line for line , the movie would never make it. There would be no entertainment. When a movie like this comes out you just have to put down your army glasses and be a civilian.

And you don't have to be military to know that the movie was completely unbelievable.
For one thing, we would have lost a lot more troops over there if this movie was a faithful portrayal of what goes on.

It was a decent movie for entertainment value, but that's it.

I think the movie would have been better had they left out all the cowboy shite that went on.

This is absurd, but it's not quite as bad as your previous comment:

As if your "bubble" is more important than what the people who actually served/are serving over there think about it.

The problem with The Hurt Locker being so unrealistic is that it's not Commando or Rambo. It is packaged a serious movie about the wars, and Hollywood is treating it that way. Those wars are ongoing, the veterans are still young, the families of the dead are still grieving, people are still dying to IEDs every day, and here you have this purportedly serious movie portraying them as unprofessional cowboys.
I could go on and on about this, but it's frustrating b/c it's basically the only apolitical movie about the Iraq War so far, which is great, but they botched it instead of giving us an accurate portrayal of what our troops have done there.

I really dont get all the love for it.

Remner and Mackie were very good, but I didnt think it was Oscar material.

As a former Army guy who never served in Iraq, I can tell it's completely unbelievable but that won't stop me from enjoying the movie. I thought the movie had zero plot or purpose...just a series of adventures but i still enjoyed it.

To me, something like Braveheart where they failed to put in a BRIDGE in the Battle of Sterling Bridge was a major no-no.
