I saw it and liked it. It's also a great idea for any CEO to do if possible in their company.
BTW, change your thread title. It's too vague

I didnt watch the show, so can someone answer this for me: Is it a hidden camera that follows the boss around? If not, wouldnt it kind of raise suspicion if a camera crew is following the boss around??

Didn't watch it but is it any different than what it seems to be? i.e. a corporate PR move to shift the blame for the problems and poor working conditions at these companies from where it belongs, at the top, to middle management.

looks like another stupid reality tv show i won't be watching

It was pretty entertaining. The CEO of Waste Management went around doing low paying entry level jobs and such. They told the people that they were filming a show about the guy trying different entry level jobs. It wasn't bad.
Next episode will be the boss of HOOTERS.

Actually the Waste Management guy took a lot of responsibility for the conditions himself. Next week looks like he may fire a Hooters manager for making the girls degrade themselves so they can leave early.
There's been lawsuit talks because the employees were told they were being filmed for a different reason besides a for profit cbs show.

I figured some shite like this would happen once I saw that people were being deceived. It is kind of fricked up though, I mean going undercover is cool to be in touch with the bottom and see whats going on in the realm that these CEO's have forgot about, but to do it in front of a national audience and on camera..DAMN. But it is one hell of a good concept for a show.

No they pretend they are filming a documentary.

Can't wait for the Hooters episode. I hope that manager guy gets fired on it.

Well the first one blew. Lets just say if you randomly selected 5 people from Waste Management 1 million times you wouldn't have had these 5 people they selected. From the guy who makes a game out of cleaning the shite out of port-a-potties with no complaint. To the guy who's on Dialisis and picks up trash off the side of the landfill all day. To the woman who has overcome cancer 5 times, works 4 different jobs for the smae pay, invited the CEO to her home where her parents and brother live as well, and is being forced to sell her house...
There was no negative side to this show, he didn't catch anyone truly unhappy in their job of waste management. Looks like a complete PR stunt by WM picking their top performers and people with "background stories" who enjoy their job and give the company a rosey outlook.
You are a fool if you honestly believe there are garbage collectors who stop and talk to the families when they are picking up their garbage, and that these families routinely give them "small gifts" and write them letters...

How the hell do you know? Did you used to be a "sanitation engineer"? It was one cerebral palsy person giving a letter. Not everyoen giving gifts on a regular basis. Maybe they do cherry pick people but it did show negative aspects of the job that shed a negative light on the company. Stuff like the woman having to pee in a coffee can and workers being docked time by their manager if they come back to work late. I thought it was a pretty fair display of the jobs.

They showed a preview for the one next week that will involve some negativity. I'm not going to spoil it, but if the manager realy does what is shown in the preview, he will be lucky to still have a job at the end of the show.

Of course they cherry-picked, they knew they were being filmed.

Yea, you are spot on. The show seemed interesting so I gave it a shot, but I quickly realized how staged and fake it truly was. It was so blatant that it was kind of insulting.
I also like what someone else said about how this gives upper management a chance to blame middle management. In the case of the guy docking the pay of people, I'd be willing to be that that was a result of him responding to corporate when they came down and said something like, "You need to increase productivity." Of course, the corporate managers don't give a shite how he does it, just that he does it.

"If you want to leave early, you'll have to play my reindeer games."
That had the entire bar I was at laughing

People are going to act different with the cameras on them...they're not really going to bitch and moan outright about the company putting food on the table for them, but they can let the facts of inefficient company policy speak for itself.
My neighbor across the street is a sweet older lady who sometimes gives the mailmen bags of Halloween candy and stuff, so it's not inconceivable that some lonely people do get friendly with those workers, sometimes.
And a lot of times it IS middle management who obfuscate the facts and situations from upper management. I've seen it firsthand. Upper management knows that if they give an open forum for grievances to all the employees they will hear some really stupid shite, so they sometimes have to be selective about where they get their information from.
I think it's a great idea for a show. Problem is, middle managers will catch on quickly and get suspicious when cameras start following employees around...they need to do a true, hidden camera show once in a while to really catch how some shite goes down.
