Maurepas student sent home

"Keith Martin, whose district includes Maurepas, said the school uniform requirements had been relaxed only for black and gold."

"According to Martin, a friend of Brandon Frost’s had asked Vampran on Thursday whether Frost could wear a Colts jersey and had been told 'no.'”

My favorite part of the story...

"Brandon Frost is a senior at Maurepas High School who recently joined the Louisiana Army National Guard and plans to attend Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. He will go on his first training session with the Guard this weekend in Baker, he said."

If he thinks the school uniform policy at Maurepas is strict, he is in for a rude awakening. Better start following those rules now, son.

Again, the whole thing is rather ridiculous, but the school has rules in place.

I think the principal is a moron, but the classiest part, and the heart of my original post, are the Saints fans on here who are basically saying "frick that kid, its good for the little shite"

What is so hard to understand about this. Can you people READ ? The kid even asked if he could wear the damn Colts stuff BEFORE he did it and was told NO. The kid was a chit starter. AND he was a SENIOR in HS,, this was not some little kid. Sounds like a dumb arse to me.

he's not a moron. Livingston Parish has very strict drss code policies....he wasn't the only one sent home that day for violating it. Also...he didn't have to go home, just change shirts...the kid knew he would be sent home..so did the parents....it's the schools policy to enforce the rules....they did..it's the parents that let him knowingly break the rules and knew he might leave anyway.

and the "go back to indiana" wasn't said in mad context....it was more of a joking rhetorical question...the "no comment" part is because the principal knew trying to defend it would drag it out...saying he shouldn't have said it was the best decision ebcause most people wouldn't believe him anyway.

Kid should learn to follow RULES, doesn'y matter if you agree with them or not. Rules are rules. Very simple.

wrong, he learned to stand up for himself. that people will try to make you conform to their view and sanction you when you dont. he learned that often the sanctions are not that big of a deal, but even if they are, stand up for what you belief.

if the uniform is so important, why allow the saints colors?

i am a saints fan, and would have encouraged my kids to wear the saints colors too, but being how he is from in and his team is in the sb too, i would have fought for his right to wear his teams colors.

did the story say the principle got permsission from those at the school board who made the uniform rule? maybe he was the one breaking the rules!

your whole arguments of rules is weak. we do not follow rules simply because they are the rules. there are bad rules and bad rules get broken, challenged and defeated in court all the time.

So then NONE of the kids should have been allowed to wear anything other than their school uniforms.

How fricking difficult is it to allow Colts jerseys along with Saints jerseys. Its for the exact same event.

So if LSU and Tulane were playing in the national championship and the principal said "Its ok to wear purple and gold but nothing else" that would be perfectly acceptable?

on special occasions they will give exceptions to the rule...i.e. activity days, fundraiser days, homecoming week....but each day that the rule is not the regular uniform..it is very specific what you can wear that day. It was parish wide black and gold..and that was it. the kid broke a rule...he had the option to change...you let one kid slide on a rule that's when you start getting into more garbage the next time..."he broke the rule last time why can't i?" and on..and on..and on.

how would you like to be in this kids shoes if his team wins sunday?

i hope the saints win, no doubt. but if i was this kid, i would love to smile at the principle on monday morning if my team beat the team of his precious uniform variation rule.

all the other kids were in school uniform.
Maybe next time the school board will think about it and say "superbowl day" or whatever allowing both. but it was black and gold day. the principal simply enforced the rules.
But i fear this is going to make the school board cut back on many of the "fun" days of homecoming week and special days like this to avoid situations like this. The kid knew what he could and couldn't wear.

My twelve year came home yesterday and said a teacher had to two students in his class stand up in front. One had a Bush jersey and one had a Manning jersey (Peyton not Archie). The teacher pointed at each and let the class basically vote for a winner. When she pointed at the Colts jersey the class booed the kid back to his seat. My son thought it was pretty cool. He had caught some crap earlier in the week from Colts fans at his school talking smack about his Saints t-shirt.

i assume that kids were allowed wear their uniform or an obama shirt on nov 4, then those supporting the school in this case would still support it?

Which is basically "Saints Day".... Its the exact same as my hypothetical. Its the school choosing who it is ok to root for. Situation should have never came up.

Again, my issue is with the typical classless LSU/Saints fans who were basically saying "frick that kid, good for the little shite, ha ha ha look at the loser"

Grow the frick up

if livingston parish said that it was acceptable that day...then why wouldnt you support it? not sure why politics/race is being brought into this...it was a local excitement allowing kids to flaunt black and gold...was the school board short sighted in not thinking of the Colts...maybe...but the rule was in enforced properly.

And lord know if a story came out of Indy in which a kid wasn't allowed to wear a Saints jersey but kids could wear Colts jerseys, the morons on this board would be up in arms about it

Question:

If the school has a Jeans day and you wear Shorts this is ok?? You can wear your shorts as a matter of speech and protest and the ACLU will defend you?

NO they wont. How is this any different? The kid had the option to NOT wear any black and gold.

I hope all you morons telling the principal good job aren't serious. It sounds like they both took things too far, but the principal is supposed to be the adult. What if the situation were reversed and your kid was in Indiana? Are you saying y'all wouldn't think it was ridiculous that everyone but your kid got to wear jerseys supporting their team?
