Because he didn't want to come back another year anyway, had already won his super bowls, and wanted to go out having sent his favorite childhood team to their first Super Bowl?

Just sayin'

If anything brings him back it will be that INT.

He won't want to retire with that as his last play.

Plural? He only won one.

To answer your question, no, there is no way in hell he threw that int intentionally.

Do you honestly thing a quarterback as seasoned, dedicated, and proud as Favre would sacrifice his chances of returning to a SB on an "Aw frick it" thought?

As someone from around the area, that spent a lot of his youth coming to hang out in New Orleans, I think its certainly possible he wanted to help out the city. If I had been in his position, I would have done it. Wouldn't you?

It'd be pretty fricking sweet if Payton did this.
