Official Adam4848 Baseball Preview Feb 10th (Pro Prospects) *Page 8*

It's that time again this year bringing you my preview on each position. I have incorporated a new player ranking system this year which is purely my opinion and how I think the player will perform over the year. Feedback is great whether anyone agrees with me or not, but please don't make this thread a flame war in anyway possible. This thread is and always has been strickly a way for people to get a feel for what the upcoming season brings.

HEIGHT: 5-11
WEIGHT: 207
Catcher
Micah Gibbs (Jr.)*
Grant Dozar (So.)
Wes Luquette (Fr.)%
At the beginning of the 2008 season Paul Mainieri had a revelation. He thought Micah Gibbs, then a true freshman with a year off of baseball, would be a first or second round draft pick. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen although going into the 2010 year Gibbs, a switch hitting brick wall behind the plate, has been tabbed as one of the best catchers in the nation. While only throwing out nearly 31% of runners trying to steal bases Gibbs did however effectively shut down running games for opposing teams. With the loses of nearly half the teams homerun production now in minor league ball Micah will be counted on to drive in runs in the middle of the order. A challenge this third second year starter isn’t afraid of. With the loses of Sean Ochinko and a JUCO signee who never made it for undisclosed reasons more of a load will be put on Gibbs shoulders especially with 5 games a week. That is why the backup position will be vital whether it be Grant Dozar, an athletic infield utility player or Johnny Dishon to step up when the time is needed. Wes Luquette, a 27th round draft pick of the pirates, is a very talented true freshman who will redshirt due to Tommy John Surgery.

Great read. This will be the first year I'm on here for baseball season. I'm gonna follow this thread closely.

Do you think Micha hits for a little more power this season?

I'm thinking around 7 or 8 homeruns but his RBI's should soar I'm thinking in the 50's.
I'll be out to 11am today, I'll answer any questions if there are when I get back. Take care.

I'd be interested to see where you rank trey watkins. The way mainieri is talking it seems top 3

Do you think dozar will be the starter for next year or will the redshirt freshman take over assuming he is healthy. Dizar needs to get a lot of midweek time IMO to be ready for anything. Not sure if Dishon will ever see much time back there for that reason.

You’re not ranking plate music? : (

Edmond Sparks

Watkins should hit near .350 and steal at least 30 bases. He's legit

Good work. I look forward to the rest. I hope Micah can hit like the 4 you have him but I think Micah will pretty much produce like last year. He's certainly exceptional behind the plate though

My new favorite player, kid is gonna be a great one for us, typical great leadoff hitter.

My rankings on the 5 tools don't necessrily line up with how they good they will be, but what they possess right now. If you're talking about how he stacks up with the sophomore class as a pro prospect then yes, his stock has soared since he's been here.

Honestly, Luquette is the best hitter in this freshmen class and an even better prospect behind the plate; however Dozar will be more experienced next year. Way too early to know for sure, both will be the top candidates.

I don't have each players walk-out music yet :(

They indicated Sparks didn't make the grades which seems odd since he just got here from JUCO. He didn't have time to mess up that much academically unless he just skipped all of his classes.
As far as Luquette, he should be hitting around April. Not sure about throwing though.
Dozar and Dishon and even Didier could be the emergency guys.

Dozar's going to be more than the emergency guy. He'll give Micah a break behind the plate every so often
