Because their dad is an alum of Ole Miss and they hate LSU. Payton would have went to Ole Miss also if his older brother wouldn't have had to quit playing football.

It goes without saying, that the man in the middle, would've died on the inside, if those boys chose LSU..besides you can bet that they were poisoned against LSU in infancy.

They had a better chance of going to Tulane.

We didn't offer either....they were both like 12-15 on our list for QB's for their perspective years.

Good Lord people!!!!! I am sick and tired of this BS. Payton and ELI would have never gone to LSU. Their Dad is an OLE MISS legend. NOWAY they would ever have gone to LSU so give it a rest.

Peyton for sure made it clear to fans that he was not going to BR for college. I think he visited LSU one time only out of courtesy.

Anyone know why Payton and Eli didn't play for LSU?

As a native of MS, but an LSU grad, I'll try & keep this simple for those still confused on the topic of Mannings/LSU:

There was this red-headed kid from Drew, MS that went to play football at Ole Miss back in the late 60s. No great surprise there--in-state kid going to a state school.

The kid goes on & has a fine college career, then signs with a professional team...in New Orleans. Logically, the kid establishes his family in the city where he works--again, no great surprise. The only other place he likely would have lived is back home in MS somewhere had the pro gig not panned out.

After his pro career ends, he stays on in N.O. with his wife & his sons are born & raised there. However, their only connection with Louisiana is with N.O., and not with any colleges in LA.

As time comes for his sons to go off to college, their first option is Ole Miss, their father's alma mater--again, no great surprise. So, of the 3, two of them wind up there, with the 3rd going to another SEC school that IS NOT the traditional hated rival of Ole Miss, but is located just up the road from North MS.

Chances of any of the Manning boys going to Ole Miss--somewhere between 50 & 100%
Chances of any of the Manning boys going to LSU--somewhere around 0%

If Johnny Vaught himself had been coach of LSU at the time, I don't believe it would have made any difference--those kids weren't ever going to set foot in an LSU classroom.

This ends today's object history lesson--those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
