Phil Mickelson continues his career of stupid decisions. His defense of using an old Ping square groves wedge sounds like Mark McGwire defense of steroids, when he said they weren’t illegal at the time under baseball rules. Ping is now under pressure to retract it's legal exemption for the old clubs.

If the PGA doesn't like for players to use those kind of clubs they should simply ban them. At the moment they are legal for him to use,(grandfathered in) so I don't see a problem with it.

Nah. Not a moron. Too many guys on tour have said Phil is an arse. PGA should have researched its rule a little more and written it where there could be no loophole. Phil and any others using these clubs are still tools for going on ebay to try and find 20 year old Ping Zings or Eye2's whatever the hell they are.

I see nothing wrong with this at all. It's perfectly legal. My only question is, what is stopping Ping from making brand new ones for their players and saying they are old?
