Mel Kiper's Summary on Saints

The pick of Odrick isn't supposed to be a statement, an admittance that Sedrick Ellis was a bad pick two years ago. The bottom line is that Odrick is a great value.
The Saints will need to continue to improve against the run and extremely talented interior linemen like Odrick that can let your LBs run free are guys you can't have enough of.
Weatherspoon and Lee are both guys that would have to fall, but either could be a second-round home run. A great safety value could be an option, or a guy like McCluster, who Sean Payton could do a lot with if, for some unlikely reason, Reggie Bush ends up elsewhere.
Is he calling ellis a bust? Really?
The rest of the article is for y'all to enjoy

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I think he's saying that by picking another DT it would not necessarily be admitting that Ellis is a bust. Just that there's great value at getting another DT at that spot.

I think he is saying not to read into it that way. He is saying the Saints would pick him because he is great value, don't think they are picking him because Big Sed was a mistake.

eh, no rational person can say that Ellis has performed like they hoped the #7 overall pick would. Now, if he can ever stay healthy it MIGHT be a different story.
but, too early to say bust.

I think he is saying that picking another DT is NOT an admittance that Ellis was a bad pick, but that the best value on the board when the Saints pick is this DT.

THIS. When I first read it the other day I thought he was calling hiim a bust, but upon re-reading it I got what he meant. Awkward sentence structure.

I bet the Chiefs wish they had drafted Ellis.

As others have said, my read is that he is saying the opposite.

Yeah after reading it again I see what he means now. Terrible wording regardless.

No. Not really. Reading comprehension, man.

admittance
huh?

why?
Because that means they would have passed on Dorsey.

and have a guy that with less than half the career total tackles and can't stay healthy?

Tackles are the most BS stat in sports.
GD has never and will never command a double team. Ellis has had injury problems, but at least he keeps Vilma clean and colapses a pocket.
I expect more from you.
ETA: Ghazi would argue that CP3's assists at home are the most BS stat in sports, but that's neither here nor there.

Ellis isn't a bust. it's not about tackles, it's what he does with the pocket and the space he occupies. He does a good job with that.
