who'd a thunk that when he kissed his girlfriend goodbye at the airport, that he wouldn't see her again for 4 years and that she'd be married with kids to the freaking dentist who he should've went to before the plane crash?

that trip to the dentist could've caused him a lot less anguish while trying to survive on the tropical island.

also, explain to me why he didn't open that fed ex package? makes no sense.

It wasn't addressed to him. It would've been illegal.

I thought the movie was great but my wife hated it. I don't know, I think its more a guy movie. Something about primal survival, man - v - nature.....

Any females on the board like this movie or is my wife crazy?

A federal law wouldn't apply on the island though.

It was just a case of principles from a guy that made this a career.

Cuz being a tru playa, he somehow knew he'd end up using that to tap some arse after he got off that fricking island.

Yep, same here. Wife hates it with a passion. I end up watching it every time I see it on TV.

Tom Hanks is one of the few actors that could have pulled that movie off. He was interacting with a volleyball for half the movie.

Solid movie, but didn't like the unsubtle bash you over the head with symbolism ending. "Oh, he's literally standing at the crossroads. I get it!"

I liked it for the realism.

The package symbolized the hope he had to eventually get off the island. If he would have opened it, he would have accepted a fate that would keep him on the island the rest of his life. Not opening it helped him keep his spirits up.

(Not my interpretation - that is from the creators themselves - no, I don't have a link.)

Yeah he used it as motivation to get off the island one day and deliver the package.

The fact that she has kids kind of bothered me in the movie. I don't remember exactly if she had one or 2 kids, but I do remember her feeding one when she gets the phone call telling her that he is alive. So, he's gone 4 years. Let's assume the kid is 1. Now we have a 3 year time span. Take away nine months for pregnancy: 2 yrs and 3 months. Let's say they decided to marry quickly 3 months after getting engaged. Also, let's assume she tried looking for him for a year. That's a 1 year span for her to start dating this guy then get engaged. That bitch Helen Hunt had to be cheating on him before he got stranded. That is the only explanation.

Loved the movie. I cried when Wilson fell off the raft.
