id be surprised if carroll doesnt do well. he seems like one of the few college coaches that can have success in the nfl with his laid back attitude and ability to not need to be a hardass, which is what you have to be in the nfl

who goes to usc

early money for me would be on mike riley, sarkisian, or (DONT LOOK EGG) jack del rio

Is it official? This ESPN article says the deal is 100% done BUT they have to at least interview a minority candidate according to the Rooney rule that's in place in the NFL. If everyone knows the deal is done, pretty humiliating for the guy that they interview to satisfy the rule. I wouldn't interview in that instance, would you? LINK

So who is the token?

They might as well just crank call Gene Upshaw and report it as an interview.

With impending probation on the horizon, I don't see USC getting a top tier candidate. I could be wrong, but if you're Riley or Sarkasian, would you take the SC job right now? I wouldn't.

Is this considered a dick move by Carroll, leaving a team that's getting ready to get hit with sancions, all while under his watch?

Also, Pete's first stint wasn't shitty. He had a better than .500 record and made the playoffs a couple of times, I think. He didn't set the world on fire, but he didn't suck by any means.

agree. the other end of the spectrum (e.g., control freak Saban) won't do well either.

I musthave missed the "getting ready to be hit with sanctions" part? Other than what yahoo reports yearly (ie., NCAA has almost completed their investigation) that end up flat, what did I miss?

I think Parcells took basically the same team to the Super Bowl the very next year... seems like he was underachieving to me.

Adam Schefter tweets (summerized)

Bates to go w Carroll. USC assistants didn't bother to return calls left Friday by high school seniors participating in the All American Bowl looking for answers.

Always a good policy (to ignore recuirts' phone calls)

I don't care what Tangerine or other USC people say. This reaks of NCAA sanctions and coaches sneaking out in the middle of the night in my opinion. Get the hell out while they can.

His first stint with the Jets was not so good, but his second stint as a HC with NE was not bad. Better BTW than Paytons first 3 years with NO.

He didn't do well in the NFL before. Why would he make this move? Money? He's got a boat load now. Ambition? He won't accomplish much in the NFL. Wants the rainy, gloomy weather of Seattle over the warm , sunny weather of SoCal? Not likely. Escape USC problems? Sounds logical. Will he return to college in a couple years like Saban and Petrino? Very possible.
