Shrimp etouffee is good. Service is pretty bad, and if you ordering out for lunch give them about an hour and then you only have to wait for 20 minutes.

this is more of a meat counter inside the Walmart Market. Looks like the quality of the meat is very good.

Quality meats, little expensive imo. The good thing is that you know you will be getting a quality cut of meat as opposed to having to guess at most other places.

Fwiw - I like to find a small local grocery that has a butcher, you will get the best cut at the lowest price at that kind of place

I used to go to Maxwell's a lot in BR (2000/1). They had great ribeyes for what I thought was reasonable prices. Better than anything else I could find in a decent area.

they started in Shreveport, original is on Line Avenue.

Serve beer on tap while you shop....not sure thats gonna fly in a WalMart.

It is a meat market....butcher shop with beef, pork tenderloins, etc......recently, they began serving food - but thats not the MO

Their meat is superior to grocery stores. Depending on your options in Mandeville (butcher shops) - this is probably where you should buy your beef.

I bought a whole rolled rib roast from them last night. $170.00 was a high, but the meat quality looks awesome. I am looking forward to roasting this thing Friday morning.

BTW. That thing will feed 20 family members, so at $8.50 a person for my meat cost, I didn't think it was too much for great quality.

they are not expensive.

remember, typically with butcher shops - you get what you pay for......thats the reason butcher shops exist - all grocery stores carry beef.

enjoy that rib. i cook 1 for Christmas Eve every year....family wanted a gumbo this year tho, so i didnt get one!

I see where they've opened another one in BR on Highland. I haven't really bought anything from them other than some frozen grillades which I thought were just meh after heating them up, and their shrimp salad which is a little pricey, but it's delicious. I need to try more of their stuff, now that they've got a place on my side of town.

Their seafood is great too. Very fresh tuna, salmon, etc. Some of their pre-prepared dishes are way too salty for my taste.

The roasted chicken sandwich is incredible. Wal Mart approached them because they wanted to upscale the meat/deli section in the Neighborhood Market concept. They are looking at doing several others.

I love the ceasar salad so I asked to buy some of the dressing. Gal said sure. Printed a label with a price of about ten bucks, slapped in on a pint container then poured Ken's Ceasar Salad dressing out of a five gallon bucket into it, slapped the lid on said happy eating.

I found it at Wal Mart for like two bucks. Oh well...

If you like prepared Ceasar salad dressing, try the Girards (sp). If you can find the refridgerated...it's even better, but the shelf stuff is good too.

I was picking up steaks for a camp trip a year or two ago, and I asked the guy behind the counter for a few ribeyes I pointed out. He picked them up, repriced them in my face for about a $1 per lb increase, handed them to me and then repriced the rest of the box.

Went to the new location last week on Highland rd to pick up a couple of strip steaks. Everything in the meat counter seems a little pricey IMO.
I usually buy steaks at Whole Foods and have never been displeased.
The price on the strip steaks at Maxwells was $12.99lb and didn't look like anything I've seen at Walmart.
Left and went to Whole Foods and got them for $9.99lb. Delicious.
