Had to go out to Baker today around lunch with my girlfriend. Decided to go into Zachary and eat. Excellent choice(as he pats himself on the back). Jalepeno cheese fries for an appetizer. Ordered a large here because we were both starving. It could have been a meal for 2 people. Brought half of it home. She had the chicken breast topped with onions, shrooms an pepperjack cheese with baked potato and steamed vegies. I took a bite of this and was not dissapointed, but I rarely need a menu when I go because you can't get a chicken fried steak better anywhere. Topped with white gravy along with mashed potatoes and corn. Spectacular.

Spectacular, and chicken fried steak and white gravy should never appear in the same thread.

Why is this?

Sammy's has come a long way on their french fries and really got them down right. Nice and crispy. They used to be too brown and soggy.

Capital City Grill on Sherwood does really good thin fries as well.

Hey don't be mean. I happen to think Chicken Fried Steak is the best thing since Jesus. I also love starches with my starches. I am perfectly happy with chicken fried steak, french fries, and a big loaf of bread. MMMMMMMMMM!

And to the original poster, I know a lot of people say Sammy's is overrated and it may not be my favorite place EVER but I really like the place. I have never had an unpleasant meal there and if you've ever gotten the lunch specials, it's a shite-ton of food for hardly any money. They certainly don't stiff you on the portion sizes.

ETA: Although I have noticed that our Sammy's here in Central has much more varied lunch specials and everything is a dollar or so less. I don't really understand why the locations are different like that.

The grilled shrimp poboy at Sammys is great and unique to them. If you haven't tried it, you should. The seafood caesar salad is awesome as well. Those are two favorite items there.

I've never had the crawfish there.

When discussing Sammy's chicken fried steak it's appropriate. With a double helping of mashed potatoes it's one of the best meal deals in Baton Rouge.

Always loved Sammy's. My only suggestion is they start hiring hot chicks like they did in the early to mid 2000's. 2005 was when it started going to hell.

I assume it's that hot girls aren't looking for jobs. I'm sure if they had an abundance of hot chicks applying, they'd gladly hire them only but I guess when you need work, you need work and you go to every measure to get it.

this is true, however they used to have hot girls working there, and now they dont. In addition to a reduction in hottness factor, I've found these new frumpy girls don't perform their jobs as well.

I still love Sammys. Just sayin.

No, I agree completely with you. I don't know where all the hot girls went but I do remember when they were there. That's just the theory I feed myself, lol.

I had the CFS there last night.
It's good and the waitstaff was, ahem, solid.
I grew up in that neighborhood, and Sammy's is still a neighborhood joint to me.
