Yeah, I doubt Black was nominated for his award 10 days after he got the starting position as LSU's LT.

1936 – Billy May
1958 – J.W. Brodnax
1978 – Robert Dugas
1997 – Alan Faneca
2009 – Ciron Black

At this rate, we should have someone win this award in either 2014 or 2019. Congrats Ciron.

Is this real? I hope Ciron proves me wrong and turns out to be a great pro I just can't imagine anybody on our o-line getting an award for anything after this season. This is pretty shocking I dont even know what to say exactly

“It’s an honor to have claimed this award,” Black said. “I thank God and all the people who have made it possible for me to play at LSU. We have done some great things here in my career, and I couldn’t have done it anywhere else. It’s just a blessing to have been part of this.”

Black, one of the top linemen in school history, earned first-team All-SEC honors this season from the Associated Press and league’s coaches. He was a second-team All-SEC selection as a junior in 2008.

Black has started 52 consecutive games at left tackle for LSU, tying a school record for consecutive starts set by Andrew Whitworth. He can become the school’s all-time leader in consecutive starts when the Tigers take on Penn State in the 2010 Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day in Orlando, Fla.

“Before the season, I never thought about the streak,” Black said. “I’ve been fortunate to stay injury free. I thank our training staff. I would love to break the streak, but at the same time it’s bittersweet because it means I’ve got one game left as a Tiger. I’ve got to leave my home away from home after this. I remember my first start and now it has flown by. It is a blessing to have made it this far. I thank all of my coaches, staff and teammates who have made me who I am at LSU.”

Black led LSU with over 70 knockdowns this season while grading out over 85 percent in all 12 of LSU’s games. He posted a team-best 68 knockdowns in 2008 and has started every game of his career since his redshirt freshman season of 2006.

Classy Tiger. Allways has been. CONGRATS and well done.

They must mean because he blocked LSU from having a productive offense this season.

That is a frickin joke. He got tossed around like a freakin ragdoll for most of the season. What even more rediculous is that PP does not get 1rst team honors.

Yeah, because I'm sure whoever awards this trophy asks for just highlights and not complete game tapes.

Yeah, because I'm sure they watch every good O-lineman on each play for every game of the season.

This thread just shows what a sad state of affairs this board is in. An LSU guy wins All SEC Honors and an award for being the best in the SEC at his position and he gets blasted. The kid has been here all this time and he gets this treatment. Sad.
I am proud of Ciron and congratulate him for being so honored. I honor his accomplishments. Thanks for playing for the Tigers!!

Congrats to Ciron, but I wonder if this is a lifetime achievement award. CB chose to return to LSU this year because last year's NFL draft class included OL like A Smith, M Oher. and others.

Mel Kiper doesn't even have CB as a first rounder i the '10 draft, and I have yet to find that his stock has gone up this year.

There are a lot of seniors on the 11 other SEC teams.

Why would Ciron get singled out?

It is possible that he had a great year and the voters rewarded him for it.

Not sure why people feel the need to make excuses for one of our players winning an award.

You are correct Prominetwon! I wonder if these ranters realize that the obvious was his pass blocking skills that our QB maybe doesn't understand for his lack of getting the ball off quicker or due to his ability to lock in on only one receiver at a time caused so many sacks? Not necessarily Ciron's lack of pass protection skills? Also, did the running backs hit the hole when they were suppose too or did they know where to even go? Or did they try to free lance off on their own? Plus most of the negative yardage was between the two gaurds or the interior of the line.

Anyway, way to geaux Ciron... to your future and

Ciron wouldn't be the first player to win an award based on name recognition/previous accomplishments.
