I'll give it some thought. This list was just my favorite wines of the year, irrespective of price. I realize they're all expensive, however. But it's a list I've been compiling all year and i was finally ready to put it in writing.

I understand. A under 50 list would be great!

I ordered a bottle tonight. Will let you know what I think and you can give me further recommendations. Would appreciate that.

I'm sure I'll love it. I don't have a problem with cabs going to waste around here!

Nice list. Was in S.B. over Thanksgiving and went to Whitcraft Winery. Was with a friend who knew the winemaker and tasted all the barrels. Great stuff. Interesting that he doesn't own a pump.

You know, I've never tried a Whitcraft wine. I've seen them in shops, but I've never tried one. Do you recommend them?

why the price? not a big deal at all. I'm a working woman.

by reading the website, my only concern was that it might be too hearty. but I'll take it.

Yes, the price. You picked the mst expensve wine on my list. However, if you like cabs then I think you'll really like this wine.

besides Fess Parker, which of these are near Santa Barbara/Solvang? Heading up there for new years to check out some food and wine.

Foxen is not far, and quite a different experience. Their "tasting room" is basically a shack, manned by a fellow and a dog. If I recall it's up the valley from Zaca Mesa. Great wines in an unpretentious setting and totally laid back.

I forgot about Foxen, but you're right. It's on Foxen Canyon road, about 10 miles past Fess Parker (also on Foxen Canyon road), heading toward Santa Maria. It's a beautiful drive out in the country and well worth the trip. Foxen is sold out of the 2006 "Toasted Rope" Syrah that I have on my list, but they're always a good place to visit. Spend $10 to do a tasting and see if you like anything well enough to buy it.

I did like the wines across the board, chard. pinot and syrah. I bought 2 pinots for gifts.

My list is much shorter:

(1) Boones Farm Strawberry Hill (December 2009) $5.59

(2) Mogan David Table Red $9.99 (any month/year) (gallon)

Do you guys know anything about Mary Edwards? I had the 2006 Cab last night and it was AWESOME. I am just getting into wine so I have never heard of it before ...

Yes, she makes great wines. Not sure if you can find her brand of Pinots in Louisiana, but you can try to search out Starlite Vineyards (Zinfandel and Viognier) that she has a hand in making.
